31 Thoughts: What’s next for Coyotes, Chayka after split? - Sportsnet.ca

Speculates CHayka's job offer is a major one and cites the Devils as the candidate. Also thinks Peter Chiarelli is on the Yotes radar

1. I think the Coyotes’ offer to Taylor Hall was five years, $7.25-million AAV. That’s not a final offer from what I can tell, and we’ll see if they become more aggressive. I think situation is as important to Hall as anything.

7. The NHL is estimating there will be 66 minutes once the ice is clear after one game to the end of the next game’s warm-up. Plan your schedules accordingly.

8. Logic trivia question: When NHL teams were suggesting ideas for CBA negotiations, one of them recommended a “flex cap.” The idea was that clubs would be permitted to roll over any extra cap room from year to year, allowing them to long-term plan for their own individual circumstances over periods of time. If you know you have some major signings in the future, you can create extra room in advance. Or, if you’re rebuilding, you can bank cap space for when you expect to be better.
So, here’s the challenge: Can you guess which team suggested it? (It makes sense for them, in particular.)

13. Not-so-obvious situations to watch: Andreas Athanasiou, Edmonton. The Oilers forward is a restricted free agent, with arbitration rights. With fiscal responsibility rammed into the new CBA, this is the kind of situation where things could be tight for the team. Can the Oilers make his arb number work? Players decide. The way they play determines the choices you make.

14.Thomas Greiss and
Semyon Varlamov
Semyon Varlamov, Islanders. We know Ilya Sorokin’s going to be a factor next year. Varlamov still has term and Greiss is a UFA, so the obvious move is the former stays and the latter walks. But New York faces a cap crunch. What if Greiss outplays his partner? Could they offer him a friendlier deal and try to move Varlamov?

17.
Evgenii Dadonov and Mike Hoffman, Florida. The Panthers are expected to cut payroll. They’re both free agents. Hoffman had 29 goals this year, Dadonov 25.

The NHL Hub Arenas Look Awesome - Crossing Broad

The other positive development on the audio side is that every team’s goal horn and goal-scoring song has been added to an audio library in Toronto and Edmonton. How that will affect home-ice advantage also remains to be seen, but the league has also assured fans that each game will have a distinctly unique feel, rather than a generic, cookie-cutter presentation.

EA Sports supplemental crowd noise is trash. Just let us hear the game without fake crowd noise.

ok credit where its due this broadcast is pretty good all things considered

the cheers after goals are f***in terrible but at least you can hear the game the rest of the time

that was a good game

definitely not the type of late season play we normally expect but hell, that just means broken plays get exploited more often

You don't like the fake crowd noise. They do it at Staples and other arenas all the time.

After watching UFC events with no crowd noise, and comparing it to Premier League soccer (I've had to stoop low to get my sports fix) with EA Sports fake crowd noise, I can tell you the former is much better than the latter.

I didn't really realize how big a part sports play in my life until now. Man, it's so nice to even just have hockey and baseball. and honestly i'm digging the game production with the camera angles and not just dimming the lights to the stands, they've really put some effort in to do what they can as well as try new things.

Re the crowd noise I'm a rink rat so I'd love to just hear the raw game with no crowd noise (plus all the on ice speech without delay, haha, but that's a different concern), but I don't hate the dull noise.

there's just a huge amount of audio issues overall, it's getting kinda irritating

i think they overcomplicated their system, i have constant clipping and static, echoes, mistimed sounds

i'm trying to chalk it up to first day back issues but some of these are persistent and it makes me wonder if no one is even listening to the final mix before shipping it

I was skeptical when the Bundesliga came back and was going to use fan audio during the broadcast, but I think it depends on the network. Fox Sports who was running the broadcast imo did a tremendous job and it felt seamless and id a good job using the proper audio when it was necessary and I still think they're doing a good job with the MLS games. Whereas when the Premier League was back I thought NBC did a terrible job. So I'm not surprised people aren't liking NBC's audio with hockey back. I don't know maybe hockey is harder to implement fake noise than soccer.

Nice to see we missed hockey almost as much as we missed complaining about hockey. The production was always going to be weird and unnatural without fans, no way around that. Honestly it was basically like watching the olympics. All that's missing is cutting to video of some fans wearing scarves and waving a flag of the team that scored.

Just saw Forbort on the Flames and realized I forgot he even existed. It's been so long I can't even remember if it was this season or last season he was traded.

I noticed some sound issues also, but I attributed it to being the first day. Hopefully its not so bad going forward.

i noticed the other day that after a goal, they cut to that low angle where they show the bench for high fives and the fans behind it celebrating then he quickly framed out the nonexistent fans

must be a force of habit thing, kinda laughed to myself cause he probably noticed the same thing i did
