not saying you were a fan of it but I am guessing based on % of cap compared to Quick's deal it would be similar, and Quick was 10 years not 8.
I wasn't a fan of the Quick contract
Vasilevsky's deal is worth 2% more of the cap than Quick's was when his was signed (11.66% vs. 9.67%)
Quick's deal didn't have any movement clauses

thank you for looking up the % of cap.

I was a fan of the Quick deal when it was signed so I think even though $9.5M seems crazy for a goalie based on this it is not out of line at all given the length of contract and level of goaltending Vasilevsky can provide

Bolts have 5.5M left and 2 contracts left to ink, Erne and Point.

And next year, Sergachev and Cirelli among the 8 contracts they have to get to.
I think Callahan's 5.8M comes off the books when they put him on LTIR, so they should be fine for this year at least.

Next year they'll have to move somebody.

If I was TB I would have tried to move Vasilevsky or let him walk in free agency next year and tried to acquire a cheap up and coming goaltender like Campbell or Petersen.

Surprised that Vegas opted to keep Eakin/Reaves over Gusev, although moving those two might be easier said than done. Their forthcoming GM had them in juniors so perhaps there's still some loyalty there.

We'll see how Gusev pans out, hopefully the language barrier isn't too huge. Vaguely recall a guy like Artem Anisimov helping out Panarin on and off the ice when Panarin first came over.

Quick's contract has those last couple years. Knock them off(if only), go with $52.5m over 8 years, that's a $6.56 hit. I don't know what the % of the cap that would've been at the time, but it would've been more than 9.67%.

getting a 2nd (in the year after hall could walk) and a 3rd for a guy who was drafted what in the 7th round and has not played an NHL game is a good haul.

The reason I take issue with the Vas contract isn't so much % as you can see with Quick, it's that Quick's was well-deserved and still we were all cautiously optimistic and thought the last few years would be bad because of his athletic style leading to injury. Quick was coming off a conn smythe and carrying a non-ffensive team, Vas has been inconsistent thus far and has been pretty much the opposite of quick, elite behind an elite team in the regular season and a playoff melter. He hasn't been a key player for them like Quick was for us at the time of the contract.

All that being said, he's probably the most sure-thing in the NHL right now goalie wise, if there IS a contract that may be worth it, it's that one. Price, Bob, Lundqvist, all older, riskier imo. Vas' pedigree is nails. Gibson is better, but the injury risk, etc.

very much agree with the bolded. Once Bob signed his deal Vasilevksy must have been pumped.

TB is certainly interesting. They're not old, but some of the main guys are inching their way up. Decent sized contracts, NMC/NTC's everywhere, and no Cup yet. Point a RFA this year, Cernak and Sergachev RFA's next year. If they keep not winning, that sweep is going to feel that much worse.

even if he is a sure thing, he ain't worth $9.5M, and i like the guy

blows my mind a goalie can come off that kind of vanishing act in the playoffs and command that money

i got mine on him as the next compliance buyout

You think there will be a compliance buyout? Only in the lockout where the hole season was lost did that happen right?
