I haven't been paying attention, why did SJ let Pavelski go? Seems like a huge mistake.

I have no problem with it, I like Pavelski and I'm glad he got out of that cesspool. Very underrated player.

He's about to turn 35, and his goal totals were going down for 3 consecutive seasons, until last year, his UFA year, when he scored on 20% of his shots, which was not only a career high, but 8% above his career average(which includes the 20%).

The Sharks made a hard choice, which was dictated by the cap. Will it be the right one? Only time will tell.

I give Wilson credit for doing what had to be done.

Erik Karlsson cost them Pavelski in the aftermath. And Braun, and Donskoi, and Ryan....just a little bit weird seeing this from you after you constantly railing on the Kings' big contracts.

I'm sure not gonna miss the Brent Burns - Joe Pavelski tip drills, they just lost like 10 autogoals against us!

yeah they're doing some serious mortgaging to keep karlsson.. only have 9 forwards on roster atm and $6.5M to spend

meier bailed them out big time with that weird contract so they must have some serious expectations of winning it all this season

I don't agree with the length of term on the Karlsson contract, but in the short run he is more important than Pavelski. Giving up Pavelski at age 35 was the right thing to do for San Jose. The big question mark with Karlsson will be his health. I still don't think San Jose is a cup contender, so they should have probably done something different with Karlsson.

In a vacuum, I agree with Wilson's decision to let Pavelski walk.

The Sharks do seem to find a way to get young forwards to score. Something I wish the Kings could figure out.

The win for Meir is that the final year sees him making $10M and he will still be an RFA. So in order for San Jose to qualify him it would be at a salary North of $10M, if they don't he will be come a UFA a year early.

Interesting to see if Sutter eventually steps behind the bench of the Ducks in a few years. I could see the plan being to let Eakins continue to develop the kids he had in the AHL and get them back into the playoffs. Once he’s peaked with the players coach approach, you can him for a hard ass.

Sutt’s will be hungry after only having livestock to scowl at for 5 years.

I don't think it's so much of a bailout as a win-win for both of them. It's guaranteed money for Meier at the end and afterwards, he's going to get paid or go to UFA.

For the Sharks, it's all about near term flexibility.

The flip side for the Sharks is if Meier doesn't perform up to standard his trade value is going to be really low for a controlled RFA. That said, they could also essentially walk away from a high-priced contract if that's what they felt was best.

A creative but honestly a smart deal. Wouldn't be surprised for this to be a new trend.

I don’t mind Pavelski. Hope he does well in Dallas.

San Jose will not find another player to replace him and that’s good. Sharks aren’t winning f*** all anytime soon.

It's impressive what the Rangers have been able to do on the fly. They have a good team now and a nice prospect base.

Fun what a lottery win can do for you

I liked their other moves too obviously and Gorton has proved to be kind of a beast, he was behind a lot of Boston's smarter moves too.

Dallas will be an interesting team to watch.

Yeah I don't know what to make of them. Lots of nice pieces; will the vets show a pulse, though? Perry and Pavs especially are sort of gambles. Though I'm sure Klingberg's PP points are going up with Pavelski in front.

And being a location that big name players want to go to. Artemi Panarin's wife wanted to go to New York and Jacob Trouba's girlfriend is doing her residency now, wanting to go to New York, which severely handicapped Winnipeg's leverage in trading him.

And Fox was traded because he wanted to play in New York, too.

I know it sounds like I'm taking away from the Rangers, and I guess I am, but frankly, they have a desirable location more than good management which has swayed things in their favor.

Dallas will be an interesting team to watch.

On paper, they look pretty good and have upgraded their top 6 which was a priority this off-season.

If Perry can be half decent, it’s a pretty good pickup at a minimal cost.

Sekera will help solidify a pretty good blueline. They won’t need him to play big minutes which should help him.

A return trip to the post season should be a given.

The stars will be a tad better. Not good enough considering the coin they dropped imo

Those two should move them up from the 3rd worst scoring team in the league. They only scored 10 more than us.

So who are the Leafs trading next? Even if they put Horton on LTIR (which they can't until the 2nd day of the season) they don't have the space to sign Marner.
