Thank god Zykov hasn't really been a part of the Canes hot start, considering what the Kings have been up to.

If anyone has been watching the Caps game, tell me why the Kings don't use the same set up. Please.

They use the Diamond set up and make plays behind the net to get the PK shifting and set up diamond and score. Look at those goals they scored on the PP today.

Compare the formation to the Kings.

Thought the same thing watching their pp. Also, Ovi is always parked at the dot, and then roams to the point and back, always moving. Nobody ever does that on ours, they stand around waiting, waiting and waiting, then force a pass into the middle and it's cleared.

Seriously. I have zero idea why the Kings park 3 players around the blue line and the 4th and 5th by the half-board/ or one in front of the net. Diamond formation and a rover behind the net is a goal

EK with another good one tonight, -2. His drop pass in OT ends up with Skjel, who takes it down and scores the winner. To his credit, he did skate really hard back and interfered with the guy in the middle (delayed penalty) right before the puck went in.

The Jets took 9 penalties...NINE! 8 of them were in the 2nd. Where was this against us? Then again, we’d have gone 0-9 too!

High -event EK at it again. Loses the puck battle then goes to cover no one on the game tying goal too.

That's what I hate about people's omissions about him. Generational offensively, zero game awareness re: defensive situations. He has stretches where he's Nik Lidstrom, then longer stretches where he's Paul Coffey.

Other than the Kings and Canucks, it was a rough night on the road for the Pathetic Division. Edmonton, San Jose, Calgary, Vegas all losers. Ducks and Kings are the only Pacific teams over .500, Vegas is just 1-4, so no miracle start for them this season.

Sorry folks, the Kings play in the worst division in the NHL. There isn't a true contender among any of these teams. Vegas caught lightning in a bottle last season. Barring injuries, I see Winnipeg, Nashville, and possibly Chicago and Colorado as all being better than any team in the Pacific.

The Central Division teams may not have the winning percentage some of the Pacific Division clubs have due to inter-division play, but the better clubs reside in the Central.

Per Sportsnet, Morgan Rielly's 11 pts is the best 5 game start by an NHL defenseman since Bobby Orr (1973). Rielly also leads the league in scoring.

Good for Reilly, I like him.

I wonder which of the 'multiple' offers the Leafs have gotten for Nylander lands them a top d. Dreger thinks that the Canes (Faulk) and Jets (Trouba) are strong possibilities. But I suspect it will get done before mid November, they won't lose him for nothing.
Leafs aren't budging from their 6-6.5 bridge offer and Nylander isn't budging from 8 x 8.5.

Good for the Leafs. They don't need Nylander, and they can definitely address a weakness by dealing him.

They need to address it before April. And given Nylander's skill, it should net them a top line D.

Side note- I have been impressed by both the Canes and Devils. Both teams have bodies that utilize systems based on speed, skill and aggression. I've always liked the Canes and they've been the best team I've seen this year and picking up McElhinney was good for them. He was solid for the Leafs last year behind Swiss cheese. Canes have a good young d and in the 2 games he's played, he's been terrific. And I think they have themselves a true winner in every way on the guy with the C on his chest. That's a big help to a young team, Williams has been thru the wars and come up with the silver cup, he knows the battle zones.
Devils were good last year until Feb when a lot of their young guns lost gas. That isn't likely to happen this year. I watched the smoke the Caps last night, wave after wave of speed and skill , and good decisions in the offensive zone. Fun team to watch. Very impressed by Butcher, he's gonna be good for them.
Palmieri, who I always liked, esp strong in ES goals/points, is off to a great start.
4 goals already (2 games) didn't hit 5 last year until Jan. And Hall was flying.
I had them 3rd in the division in my preseason pick and I think they should achieve that

I haven't really watched anything other than LA, but isn't STL in that mix with their off-season moves?

Of course, LA was in first place or right there with Vegas for a good stretch at the start of last season so I'm not going to make any bold proclamations after five games. I just really hope Vegas is trash this season after almost suffocating on the smugness in their building in preseason. It's like 90's Avs fans except Denver fans knew about losing in other professional sports and still didn't care about the Avs as much when they first moved there.

They lost a lot of their....character....if you can call it that, replacing James Neal and David Perron with Paul Stastny and Max Pacioretty works on paper...but on the ice, they are completely different types of players, and it's showing.

Yeah, I suppose St. Louis is still a possible playoff team.

I couldn’t stand Toronto when they were overrated plugs.

Really can’t stand them now, and I don’t even want to hate on them that much.

It’s like when you see a trailer for a probable good movie over and over again until you lose interest and skip the movie.

The Matthews hype is out of control. Dude's been on the ice for more 5v5 goals against than the Kings have allowed all year in all situations.. A CorRel of -8. It boggles the mind. He has to keep up this ridiculous pace just so he breaks even. He's a -3 at 5v5 even with his points, that's terrible. Do they really think that is good in Toronto? Has it been that long since they've had a decent player?

This Washington PP set up is so effective in getting good chances why the f*** don't the Kings utilize it
