He didn't say the main staple he said a main staple. That 2012 team was deep everywhere, and Richards was a big part of that. At the time Stoll could still be a top 2 centre on a lot of teams and he was our 3rd line center and Carter on the wing. Was amazing!!

Look at the 2010 Flyers (I think that was the year they went to the finals) their top line was literally the kings 2nd when Gagne was healthy.

I don't disagree. Edited my post. Calling Richards THE prime leader of the cup run is still silly.

There are 69 days remaining in the NHL's regular season. Four teams (COL, NYI, TOR, OTT) will average more than a game every other night.

That's nuts...good planning there NHL...\

And the Rangers gave Vigneault a new deal, puts him 3rd in $$ behind Babcock and Joel Q

Pierre LeBrun ‏@Real_ESPNLeBrun 6m6 minutes ago

AV contract is a 3-yr deal, next season on old deal was ripped up. Will make $4 M next season, $4 M in 2018-19 and $4.25 M in 2019-20

\
and in other Ranger news, Miko Zibanejad's father is with him but other family are in Iran and now will not be able to visit him

Justin Tasch ‏@J_Tasch 19h19 hours ago

Members of Mika Zibanejad's family living in Iran are affected by Trump's executive order. "Right now it just sucks"

Hitchcock fired by the Blues. Mike Yeo promoted to head coach.

Should be interesting to see if this sparks them, or they continue to fall flat. Yeo doesn't exactly seem like the type of guy to rally the troops.

was really only a matter of time what with Yeo taking over next year.

ANother slewfoot from Marchand...

From the 'a tiger doesn't change it's stripes' dept, in a close game last night between Boston and Tampa Bay, Brad Marchand at his best, slewfooting. The ink isn't even dry yet on the check from last week's fine.

http://www.tampabay.com/sports/hock...-hopes-return-of-point-provides-spark/2311604

Marchand was not called for a penalty for slewfooting Stralman near center ice after skating up behind Stralman and using his right skate to kick Stralman's left skate out from under him.

At some point, the NHL has to recognize what a dirty SOB he is...how many slewfooting incidents have to continue before he gets a stiff suspension.

Stralman: "I'm not the puck holder. I'm out in the neutral zone + I get hit from behind. That's all I've got to say

Mark Barberio will be placed on waivers by the Habs at noon

He's a decent #6 depth guy for some team. I think he'll get picked up

Armstrong spitting fire: one guy in that room is going to Hall of Fame -- Hitchcock. Adds the rest have to work to reach that standard

Okay, shouldn't he be looking in a mirror? Isn't he the one who put this team (no identity) in place? Among other moves, Didn't sign Backus, and you can see that loss in this years play.

It was a completely stupid situation in the first place, and dumb that they agreed to let Hitchcock have one last year to go out on his own terms, only then to fire him anyway.

Yeah having a lame-duck coach with a distinct endgame kind of sucks.

But the Blues' biggest problem is goaltending, and relieving the coach does nothing.

Now with Yeo, we will see if they keep playing the aggressive game (props to Hitch, I liked their system) or fall back to Yeo's Minnesota "don't forecheck" game, vomit. Please tell me we're done playing them.

There was an article last week which said Vegas already had their preseason schedule penciled in. If the Kings don't do the China trip, they'd be playing in Vegas on my birthday weekend (mid-September) which would likely lead to a road trip. But if they do play in China, they'll play in Vegas later in September.

If the Kings end up doing China, they'll probably save me money. [/coolstorybro]

Same here, never been a fan of Yeo. And Hitch being free gives Vegas another good candidate along with Gallant.
and maybe Julian...

It'll be interesting to see if a new goalie coach does help out Allen. I remember a few years back that Braden Holtby was having a rough stretch since goalie coach Ollie Kolzig wanted him to play deeper in net. Kolzig was replaced by Mitch Korn (good reputation for developing Nashville's goalies over the years) and Holtby quickly rebounded.

Off the top of my head, I'm trying to remember which (high profile) goalie struggled under Francois Allaire.

Toskala? Bernier maybe, or was Allaire already gone when he got there? Interesting.

Yeah, it looks like it was just a public spat/falling out with Brian Burke and Allaire when they were in Toronto. Vaguely recall some goalie saying that Allaire's style just didn't suit his style of play.

They definitely need to rebuild Allen's confidence and maybe some new voices will help out. Marty Brodeur is supposed to be co-goalie coach with Ty Conklin. I guess we'll see if Brodeur has any coaching chops.

I only remember the Toronto thing because he said something to the effect of "they don't need a goalie coach, they already have 3-4 of them" as a shot at management, haha.

Yeah Allen has some skills, need to rebuild him from the ground up though.

Blues just can't catch a break with goaltending...

Didn't help that they let Backes walk. That team has had no leadership or this season whatsoever.

While China could complicate matters, it absolutely blows my mind that they wouldn't just pencil the Kings in for pre-season on the weekend that Frozen Fury usually took place on.

There is a built-in crowd for that game. Will we still go if it is moved up to mid-September? Sure, but the game will feature far less regulars than if it is the weekend before the start of the regular season like FF was previously.

This. Letting Brouwer and Backus go was a mistake that they are paying for now. Loss of leadership w/o replacement
Armstrong hasn't done the most stellar of jobs...

From today's NHL Live show:

Tyson Nash : OEL is a much better defenseman than Drew Doughty. He puts up more goals and point and blah, blah, blah... #homer

No CAP increase for 2017/2018....

From Elliotte Friedman's 30 thoughts column..

http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/30-thoughts-lightnings-yzerman-not-biting-low-offers-bishop/

It didn’t get a ton of play during All-Star Weekend, but there’s bad news for your favourite NHL team. The cap will be flat for next year

Will be a very curious summer for the GM's.

and
15. Hearing there is more than the usual amount of scouting going on with KHL players. That league is considering going with fewer teams next season, so NHL clubs are readying for the possibility of some extra players being available. Just like last year, the bigger names are St. Petersburg’s Evgeny Dadonov (56 points in 48 games) and Vadim Shipachev (68 points in 45 games), but it will cost millions to bring them over
