Coach's challenge and 2 min penalty-

Last night the Flyers lost to the Preds 6-5. They were up 5-4 with over 2 min left when Weiss took a holding penalty , Preds had the puck for a bit and before the Flyers got the puck, MacDonald took a tripping call. So the Flyers are 2 men down, Preds pull their goalie and score, so it's 5-5 with 1:20 left. Hackstol challenges the goal , claiming the Preds were offsides. I'm hollering "what the hell are you doing? You're losing 1 pt on the road?" Keep in mind the Flyers still had 1 man in the box and losing the challenge, they go 2 men down with a little over a minute left. The calls stands, Preds go 2 men up, score and win 6-5. I was pissed, I have not found 1 redeeming quality his Hakstol since his name first came up in rumors. He's brutal. Even the players were upset. They fought back hard, down 3-0 at one point to get the lead. He even defended the decision post game, saying he would do it again. Just awful, and you could tell by the players faces, voices, etc, post game it was hard.

Worst decision I've seen in a while by a coach. The Flyers are a bubble team right now while their youth matures, but it doesn't mean you toss points away like that. As tight as playoff races are, a point or two can mean playoffs (and revenue) or cleaning out your lockers. That was just terrible, terrible points management. The Preds had momentum already, why the hell would you risk giving them even more of a push?

It cost them a shot a 6 points on a tough 4 game road trip to start the season, which would have been a huge confidence builder.

Devil - Leafs tonight should be a good one. I've seen most of the Devils first 2 games and they are impressive, loaded with speed. They have a 19 yr old Swedish winger playing on the 2nd line with Nico and Johansson, named Jesper Bratt (drafted 6th round by the Avs) who is awesome., not just for the 5 pts he has in 2 games but for everything else, including his hockey sense. I love it when a later rounder shines like that. You have Hall-Zacha (who has been great) Palmieri on the 1st line. Good top 6 and Henrique centering the 3rd (w/Miles Wood and Hayes) gives them a nice trio of young centers. And Will Butcher has been good on the backend. Devils with some great rookies. Leafs and Devils both fast with good young talent. Should be a good game for tailgunners shooting.

Terrible play by Andersen putting that rebound right back into the slot.

Sharks having a tough start to the season, now they have to play Buffalo. They are winning, but let see if that stays. The Sabres have owned them lately.

Boy, saw Detroit’s GWG in Arizona and it looked like the entire lower bowl was Red Wing fans.

I've never seen anything like that... Red Wing fans used to pack the Forum/Staples but that was ridiculous.

Arizona looked terrible on that goal. Domi didn't do much of anything to slow down Larkin, and OEL... That was the laziest attempt at defending a 2-1 I've ever seen.

I know they really want it to work, but the league needs to stick a fork in that team. Not enough fans care to show up, I can't imagine what it feels like to a team to have what feels like 70+ road games per season.

That was a fun game to watch. Don't think I've been that into a "3rd game of the season" in previous years. Schneider definitely helped steal that one with the Leafs outshooting us 50-30. I'm not sure how well the defense is going to hold up over 82 games, but it's nice seeing that coaching staff scratching Ben Lovejoy (who got a little too much playing time last season) in favor of the kids. Bratt's been a very pleasant surprise. At first I was hoping for a Sergei Brylin lovable role player type, but Bratt's shown some nice skill over the last few months. They're doing a good job with giving Butcher some sheltered minutes and a healthy dose of PP time.

Certainly early in the season, so I have to pump the brakes. But the overall team speed has been a nice improvement from a few years ago when we once started an OT with Zubrus/Clowe up front (and they predictably got burned by the faster opposition).

Measuring stick game today for the Devils; going up against Washington. Hoping they can pull out a W.

Charlie Coyle, Marcus Foligno, Nino Niederreiter, Mikael Granlund, and Zach Parise all injured for Minnesota.

Yikes.

The injury plague has hit quite early; lots of big names have been out. Kesler, Lindholm, Bergeron, Josi, Ellis, Zajac, Eberle, Karlsson, Bouwmeester, Fabbri, Steen, etc.

Kings are more or less healthy. Need to take advantage of this and put some distance between them and the competition.

I wonder who there looking at Duchene or Landeskog ? or someone else?

Anaheim is scouting their own team? WTH?

I would guess the Kings have a scout at most Ducks games, it's close and an easy opportunity to get info on other teams.

Smith and the Flames are getting lit up by the Sens. 5-0 . Sens are scoring at will on the pp.

Edit: And Smith just got pulled...

Watching Vegas/Detroit, and McNabb is having a rough night. Rooting for the guy, but he just hasn't been able to put it all together.
