First and last gif I ever made, lol.
Surprised Hedman is an UFA after next season already.Per Friedman (Fan 590) on the Stamkos contract and trade rumors
Lightning owner Jeff Vinik has given Yzerman the financial go ahead to re-sign Stamkos as long as it’s “best for the long-term interest of this franchise.” Over the next two years, they’ll have to deal with free agents Victor Hedman, Jonathan Drouin, Tyler Johnson, Ondrej Palat, Alex Killorn, Nikita Kucherov and Ben Bishop.
Than San Jose, who celebrated like they just won the Stanley Cup after that empty netter from Joel Ward.
I know its a hattrick but c'mon.
Reminds me when all their star players came out for the PP after already leading 6-2 vs the Kings.
It's good to go out on top. (don't tell anyone RP, but I miss Williams)
Man I kinda hope the Ducks fire BB. He really deserves a better team.
Stoner, Bieksa, Stewart, Kesler, Perry, can't quite put my finger on the reason they aren't playing with heart or pride doesn't motivate them to play better then they are.
Yeah, they're better than they've been so far, but they're also not the team that won a million one-goal games last year. But at least they know something is up, they're not in utter denial like Calgary (we're not regressing, we're just playing like ****!). Murray made a lot of moves just for the sake of making moves, and yeah, they've put together quite the lineup of petulant babies with those few (Stewart doesn't lose, though!). Casual Kev can be fantastic but I wouldn't have picked up anyone from those dumpy Canucks teams, reuniting him and Kesler is just asking for shenanigans. But yet, the roster is big, fast, as physical as the Kings or Winnipeg (maybe the most physical in the league without giving up speed and skill), and very skilled, they won't be down for long, it's very obviously a bye-bye-boudreau dance they're doing.
Remember, since 2003-04 only five of 44 teams that were more than four points out of a playoff position on Nov. 1 turned it around to make the post-season, a stat Friedman tracks each season. After Saturday, the Ducks sit six points out.
Yup, that's been my guess too. They've tuned out the coach. You wonder if they'd hire Carlyle back or go with someone else, Guy Boucher maybe.
Helene Elliotte's tweet from last night indicated she felt the ducks management are waiting it out, not willing to pull the plug on the coach. But's that's very risky, given how far a climb the team has to make to get back up the hill.
And as this article points out, only 5 teams in the last 12 years have made it to post season when 4 pt out by Nov 1.

My guess is that they'll promote Maclean to head coach. I think they brought him on as an assistant in case things went South with Boudreau

Say what you want about the Ducks right now, but the lack of offense up to this point is pretty crazy.
I enjoyed those Avalanche jerseys last night.
That's some **** straight out of Mirkwood!!! How do I get my hands on one of those for Halloween.
.
Gotta trade Stamkos if you can't get a deal done before the trade deadline.
Heard a really great interview with Yakupov earlier this week on XM. Couldn't even believe it was him. His English is so damn good; it's much better than the average American. For all the **** this guy gets, he's a very smart player and is finally putting all the pieces of his game together. Good leadership will do that.
I always thought the idea of him being traded to LA (we've all heard those rumors) would be awesome for the Kings. He has so much talent.
THe first thing I thought of was how soon somebody will pay $$ to get those on the blackmarket and sell them...and there goes the neighborhood.
I think he got more visibility/recognition from fans when he was on the East Coast, due to earlier games and tv coverage. It's not easy when alot of your games start at 10:30 EST, I watch all the Kings games, even thou it means getting to bed after 1 am. but don' know anyone else in the local hockey circle I know that watch anything past 8 pm. Most of the national coverage is geared towards the East Coast times/teams. Most of those fans only know of him, aside from the SCF coverage, from his tenure with the Flyers and I'm guessing base their valuation on that.
Having seen most of his games since his AHL days, his game changed when he got to LA. He was more 1 dimensional in Philly in that shooting and scoring were his primary interests. He was not much for checking, not as physical and not at driven/motivated. Someone close to him that is in the restaurant biz at the NJ shore that I spoke to a couple years back said that Carter was devastated when he was traded from the Flyers, that it tore him up and some of the criticism of his game then was being lazy, esp in his own end, not backchecking, taking shifts/games off he took to heart after the trade. He's older, wiser maybe. He'll score less goals but his game is more rounded, solid and he's a leader now, something I think came with age more than zip code.
But I think the West Coast timing gives his less visibility.
I don't think he's overshadowed by Kopitar, Kopitar is the better player, more skill, esp defensively. Kopitar just doesn't show that on a regular basis, which is frustrating. He tends to have motivation issues over 82. But he's the better player. Carter is a very good, very dependable 2 way , 2nd line center. And I think he'd be that on any team.
Very interesting background on Carter. He comes off as aloof, even as someone who doesn't like most people, whether that's accurate or not. I wonder how that reserved personality translates into leadership, since leadership on a sports team would include the ability to inspire and include teammates. Not a criticism of Carter, but a genuine bemusement.

He comes off a bit aloof in media interviews but in the room he is obviously well respected as he is wearing an A now.
That doesn't have to be through chest pounding speeches, though. It can certainly be leadership by example, and the dude's off-ice work ethic, for example.
