Shore is so much more competent in his own zone than the last years of Richards and Stoll that it really isn't even close. Sure he lost Hemsky the other night, but I trust that's a mistake the kid will learn from and correct. The Kings did win the game after all, while allowing only two goals against one of the highest scoring teams in the NHL.

Yup, and one of them was completely self-inflicted too, the rest of the night we checked them so well it was insane, and holding Benn shotless and their line scoreless is a treat.

Crazy to think their average was 3.30 goals per game entering the game. 3.30 average. Reinforces that a good defense will usually prevail over a good offense.

I remember a few years ago people were *****ing about Robyn Regehr to which I started reminding people that the Kings were 1st in the league with GA. I swear people find the oddest things to complain about.

Oh and I'd love the person who spent a whole season or two blasting Muzzin to raise his/her hand. I don't remember which poster it was and I know there were a few but there is one in particular that kept saying he was one of the worst defensemen in the league. It might be one of the guys who railed against Regehr as well. It just goes to show you that fans can be incredibly fickle and also don't know or think the game anywhere close to the level of coaches and managers in the professional world. I'm sure it's the equivalent of listening to elementary school students discuss whatever line of work any of us do.

I admit I'm not the guy you are talking about, but I was one who thought he sucked and should have been traded. now one of my more favorite players to watch. So glad I'm not Dean.

Nice of you to acknowledge that. I backed off talking in absolutes a long time ago because I realize I really don't know much about professional hockey. I mean I love the game and I understand systems play, have opinions of players and all that, but I am no expert at evaluating talent and potential at the professional level. I just got done reading this thread:

http://hfboards.mandatory.com/showthread.php?t=1512345

There is a lot of Regehr hate in there. Including a great trade scenario where the Kings should move Muzzin + Toffoli to acquire someone to play top 4 minutes. Just think if that happened. That's almost as bizarre as the Martinez trade talk earlier this year. That is why we are all fans and not professionals. It doesn't mean people can't or shouldn't have opinions but that's the reason why I never am that passionate about debating something on here whether it be Kopitar's contract or how to fix a slumping team.

BTW, that thread was started 3 games into the season where the Kings had a 1-2 record. The Kings would go on to win the Cup that year with Regehr, Muzzin and Toffoli all being key contributors that season. It really shows how shortsighted fans are when you consider that.

Good god, Did i really post I liked the look of a Brown-Carter-Frattin line? (post#12)

Drouin wants it all and wants it now

http://www.tsn.ca/drouin-wants-it-all-and-wants-it-now-1.426423

I don't know if this whole thing is orchestrated by his agent or it really is him being petulant. I understand the desire to play in the NHL but he hasn't done much at all to earn regular time.

Just because the kid was a 3rd overall in 2012 pick doesn't mean he automatically belongs, still have to earn it.

Btw, still boggles the mind that Seth Jones fell to the Preds at no. 4 overall that year.

From what McKenzie and Friedman have said, it was Walsh, his agent. But Drouin could have disagreed . He screwed this up badly. Walsh claims he felt a trade was close and didn't want Drouin injured (which I don't believe) Bolts have suspended him and rightfully so.
Whatever trades were brewing will go cold and if I'm Yzerman, I'm letting him sit until summer. You signed a contract, you honor it. You don't take that ball and go home if you aren't getting your own way.
And GM's should be holding off, you don't want other unhappy campers getting the idea that this ploy works.

Here's an interesting take on it and partly what is causing it even.

That's a very good article and by a good guy, Stewart was a well respected referee.

He's dead on about Walsh, the guy is a snake and has a poor reputation because of it.

At least based on his history, Walsh seems to be the type of agent who helps create -- and personally profit from -- the sort of entitlement attitude among many young players that has polluted the game at all levels. Nothing has to be earned, including ice time and respect. Personal responsibility and accountability doesn't exist. It's always someone's fault. Blame the coach, the GM, the team owner, your no-talent linemates, the ref and the media.

And this is true, I've seen it change in the years I've followed the sport and also where I work. We get very bright kids out of college but some of them feel they are entitled. That's something I've noticed has changed in society and it's a shame.

When people ask me about the biggest things that have changed in hockey over the years, one of the things that inevitably comes up is the entitlement culture that has taken hold among many of the younger players entering the NHL. It's not just a hockey problem. It's a societal problem. As such, combating it is a major uphill battle.

Just sucks were he posts his blog. Giving traffic to the hack that runs it.

agree.

And on the 'how low will they go'. If the Pens win tonight (and since Couturier is out, that's pretty good bet, nobody on the team comes close to him in the shutdown role) the Habs drop to 11th in the EC.

Price is out another month?? Not a bright picture.

Entitlement is my least favorite character trait, and it's sad that it's becoming prevalent in society and into hockey culture. I feel like that's something Dean plays close attention to when putting together the team. I can't think of any player on the Kings who displays entitlement. You earn your spot.

good on the agent for trying to take the bullet and be the one who looks bad for his client. that is what he is paid to do, and at the end of the day this is what will help facilitate an eventual deal. Not sure I am buying it

The agent is paid to take the heat. But what does it say about the player? He could have said NO. And then turned around and fired his agent. It's his career not the agents. And where things will likely work out this will hang over him for awhile. And if anything else negative comes out later you can bet this will get pointed at.

craziest thing about gagner getting recalled is that his was the first time he has ever played in the AHL. Edmonton rushed him.

Also K17 the loonie is over $0.70 USD!!! WAHHHOOOO

maybe he believed the agent that a deal was close. I truly think all parties share the blame. not equally though.
The agent should control his clients expectations and help guide their client.
Stevie Y probably did allude to a deal being close, but not as close as the agent thought.
Drouin....needs to shut up and play

I think Walsh is an ass, but he's obviously extremely good at what he does, and as I posted before, this isn't the first time he's reached into this bag of tricks to 'help' his client out (see: Brassard). Obviously his client's money helps him out so of course he's going to squeeze every last penny out, and his job is to be the ******* to get his client and himself paid and continue to keep Drouin in a good light.

We're obviously not privy to the details behind the scenes so I'm not even going to attempt to paint the picture of whether Drouin is a primadonna or just following advice--but what we do know is that he's burning to play in the NHL.

Lotta people here pumping up Yzerman's tires too but he's painted himself quite the mess. I get his personality and he's attempting to keep a solid locker room based on the models he saw in Detroit, but let's be real--he's now got a devalued top pick that will have to be moved for peanuts, he's got a (albeit one-dimensional) #1 overall superstar center rumored to be on the way out, and he has a slew of RFAs to pay this summer, while trying to figure out what to do with overpaid vets like Carle. He's also got a team that went to the SCF that is struggling to get it done this year...so this will be the test of his Gm abilities. Right now, he's not looking as unflappable as he seemed, and while his apparent no-******** approach is commendable to an extent, he seems to have a real inability to compromise. That's great as a player, but not sure that will translate so well to being a GM.

Thanks for bringing up a thread in which I actually look like I know what I'm talking about!

Aside from thinking Richards could still play and that Frattin would work out, of course.

Also let's not forget the MSL situation

I did, thank you for the reminder. I guess it just all goes to show that it's likely more Walsh than the players, and he's okay with dragging them through the mud with him (though he's doing something right as he has their permission to do so).

I hate entitled attitudes. They're a poison. (Those Liberty Mutual commercials always make me change the channel because they give off that vibe.)

Weal's just not having any luck breaking into the lineup.

Like seeing old photos of yourself in a haircut and clothes you once thought were cool? "What was I thinking?"

:handclap: Agree with you on that one, I complain every time they come on, think my wife is getting tired of it

WHen the news broke earlier today about Cooter, Weal was excited, quoted post practice that he might get a shot to play. Gagner should have been bought out when they traded for him. I am disappointed Weal isn't playing, unless they change their mind.
Depending on how long Cooter is out, maybe Weal gets a shot. I hope so, he practices hard, has a positive outlook. Very likable. And deserves a chance.

Completely forgot about Matt Frattin. 2 goals as a King. 85 posts. Hard to believe he was seeing 2nd line minutes (albeit very briefly) on a team that would win the Cup in June.

I remember exactly who this poster is. They may or may not have owned up to it in the last few months, that I can't remember.
