The move to Allen still bugs the crap out of me. Elliott got no goal support - he certainly wasn't why they lost. Same with Pittsburgh going to Fleury for no good reason. Wouldn't surprise me to see both teams bounced from the conference finals as a result. Over-coaching kills.

100% agree! Like many of us have said before teams that jerk around with goalies switching in and out with no confident in one goalie will never win. Tampa obviously has to because of injuries but Pit and Blues are done. This is Sharks year eeeeverything is falling into place.

More like Bickell 2013

Some team is going to regret the contract they give him as FA

He's this year's John Druce, just like Bickell was. Brouwer and Backes really. That those two have actually scored in the playoffs is one of the reasons why the Blues are in the 3rd round. Every team needs at least one of those guys, that unexpected source of offense, to go deep in the playoffs.

But yeah, he'll be a risky signing.

Pavelski doing his best Gaborik impression this year too.

Has anyone on San Jose even missed a game due to injury yet? Maybe a bottom line player? The Kings could've at least put a beating on them but nope. They just wanted to get it over with as quickly as possible.

Doesn't seem so. Especially on defense, where so far they're doing what the Kings did in 2012. The same 6 defensemen, every game.

Nieto got banged up in the Nashville series IIRC. Other than that, I don't think they've had any other player miss a game for being injured.

I really think Jones is going to end up in the elite goalies conversation in a few years. He is very talented ans big . Im not saying Kings made the wrong choice you pick Quick over n over but they could have moved Quick for an elite defenseman and forward and still had Jones along with more cap space. Just saying .

If San Jose wins this will be a ****** ****** year

i think we need to come to grips with SJ winning this year...i'm having a tough time with it, but i have accepted it

No. I can see why you thinking that would drives you crazy, but no. Moving Quick would not have gotten an elite level anything back. What team was is desperate need of a goalie? Other than SJ. Dallas? Who are they going to give you? Klingberg? Seguin? Benn? Spezza? I don't think so.

Goalies aren't worth what you seem to think they are. Quick has a large contract, the Kings are up against the cap, and Jones was a RFA last summer. If you're the GM of another team, what are you doing in that situation? Are you taking the 30 year old goalie with a long term, big cap hit contract, for an elite level roster player? Or are you going to take advantage of the Kings situation, and get a 26 year old Jones for a song, because you know Jones wants to start, and won't sign with the Kings, because Quick is there?

Name the team you think would've been interested in Quick, and the great player the Kings would've gotten in return.

MOST NHL teams are spending 5-8 million total on goalies. Those that aren't will be soon. 3 million doesn't make or break the playoffs, imo. It helps but that's not the position you skimp on.

http://www.spotrac.com/nhl/cap/

yup..when you have a goalie you cling to him..otherwise you constantly are looking.

Look at the flames since kipper, the flyers from hextall to Mason (I think Mason is underrated), the kings from Potvin to Quick, the rangers from Richter to Lund, the leafs since Cujo. The list goes on and on.

I know it seems easy as there are teams that pay less and seem to get more, but they won't be paying less for long and if they don't they will continue looking.

First off no we wouldn't have gotten anything near that for Quick.
Second in order to have tried to sign Jones we would have had to of moved Quick first.
Then what would we have done if he decided he wanted to split anyway. I know he was a RFA but he still could have made things very hard on us.

And San Jose winning shouldn't be that big a deal to us. It's not like they just came into the league. And they have had some suffering and some at our hands. I still would rather see STL win just because they have suffered longer. But it looks like San Jose is the better playing team right now.

Bruins re-signed Kevan Miller to a 4 year, 10 million dollar deal. Didn't learn until last season that Miller grew up in Santa Clarita. Kinda cool knowing that somebody from my neck of the woods had made it to the NHL.

I still don't know why all the fawning over jones other than that he's a big safe butterfly goaltender.

Even then, he's putting up the kind of numbers that get Quick eviscerated around here, the kind that people use when they advocate trading him. I feel like I'm taking crazy pills when I see people comparing him to Carey Price.

I remember when we should have held onto Bernier too.

who has been comparing him to Price? hahaha that is a fail on their part.

I must admit I was one who was sad to see bernier go, and thought that if it were not for the conn smythe win in 2012 Bernier not Quick would be LA's tender.

Jones is nothing special. What you see now is what he will always be. Nothing wrong with that. He's a solid NHL goalie, but he would be exposed in these playoffs if the team in front of him weren't playing like cyborgs. The Sharks have been masterful in all three zones this post-season

I really hate that rule about your skate has to be on the ice. That reversed goal could totally change this game .

And a 5 on 3 goals will kill you every time. We saw first hand.

Quick has been exposed before too. Any goalie can be. The Hawks did it in 2013, and 2014. The Kings won that series because they scored 28 goals in 7 games, not because they shut the Hawks down. Quick had terrible numbers at home against the Sharks this year. Couldn't stop a shot, but the players in front of Quick haven't been as good either.

Goalie is a weird and unique position in many different ways. They can be invaluable if they're good, but every one of them depends a lot on how they players in front of them play.

I really hate that rule about your skate has to be on the ice. That reversed goal could totally change this game.

It's always been that way. You've always had to drag your skate to stay onside. Lecavalier almost twisted into a pretzel on that one play this year. All Drouin has to do is keep his skate on the ice. That half inch of space between the ice and his skate didn't do anything for him either way, so it's just as easy to keep your skate on the ice, than it is to have that reviewed. Everyone knows the rule, so just keep your skate on the ice. Same as the puck over the glass thing. Don't shoot the puck over the glass.

Buffalo, Islanders, Calgary . I think my expectations are wishful thinking after thinking about it . But i dont think we couldnt have expected to get above average player or two. Or even some high end prospects and a 1st rounder. I always saw the raw potential in Jones and i think many of us did. Im not for moving Quick , he brought us 2 cups and i will forever be greatful but i also dont think he is as great as others think because he plays out of position many times , lets in softies and you dont need an elite goalie to win it all, if your team is good enough. Look at Chicago after moving Niemi in favor of Crawford. Niemi could have easily won another cup behind an amazing Chicago team and have been regarded highly as well. I loved Jones poise he showed in net and with our defensive team probably would put up better numbers than Quick.

lolllllll

See above.

Fair enough as i agree my expectations were wishful thinking , however i think if you moved Quick , Jones wouldnt have any problem signing an extension here. Kid wanted to play and rightfully so.

As for San Jose , i just cant accept it. The rivalry is real , i hate em with a passion. I have a feeling they are going to win it all because theyre clicking on all corners , however it will be hurtful. I hate every player on the team and i think our boys have hatred for them as well. I always remember Thornton sliding on our home ice and i want to beat the crap out of him.

They should go back and review every goal in history that was possibly offsides so everything can be on the level.

I'm against the challenge. If this offsides thing is such a big deal, just have it be something like in the NFL where the booth calls for it and not the coaches. Actually, now that I think about it, it should only be in the last 10 minutes of the game and it is up to the coach to challenge it.

It's such a bang-bang play at the blue line and they are taking it down to millimeters at this point and sometimes on a zone entry that occurred way before the goal being scored.

It wasn't broken before so no need to fix it. If the coaches are to get a challenge, it should be on penalty calls that are made in error (phantom high-sticks and trips) or completely missed. The problem with officiating revolves around penalties and not blown offsides calls. All this does is slow the game down as coaches "take a shot" that they might get bailed out by millimeter of space between the skate blade and the ice. Great idea to give coaches the chance to overturn goals in a low-scoring sport where the only "penalty" for delaying the game is the loss of a time out that is rarely called.

It's like when I was a kid and got sent to my room for being bad. Rough punishment when I've got my NES in there ready to go. Please don't send me to my room!

Just realized, so many of the SoCal prospects completely flopped.

Jon Blum who was from my neck of the woods, I thought he'd be a really solid 2nd pair guy, couldn't crack Nashville or Minn and is in the KHL now. Bennett and Etem who were both 1st rounders at the draft in LA have been huge disappointments. Nieto is a serviceable role player but nothing great. Kerdiles made a huge mistake leaving school early. Grimaldi might be the most talented of the bunch but he is 5'5" and that is tough no matter how skilled you are.

A bit disappointing that Dallas, Vegas and now likely Phoenix will all have produced better NHL'ers than SoCal. Especially with how well SoCal teams have done in tournaments the last decade.

The Kings were offsides on Gaborik's game tying goal in game 7 vs the Hawks. Thank God this stupid review crap wasn't around 2 years ago.

Always wondered what happened to him, I remember there was a lot of hype when he was playing for Nashville. Kevan Miller just go a decent contract from Boston, and he's from Santa Clarita if I'm not mistaken.

Crosby with a powerhouse move.
