hearing gretzky struggle to keep emotions in check on nhl network right now is really touching. then some jerk comes in and cuts some onions.

Yep. Gretzky is the closest thing we'll ever have to a Mozart or Beethoven of hockey. He simply saw the game at a different speed. That's one of the reasons he ever got hit. Because of his genius with vision and prediction, he was playing on full speed, and everyone else was on x0.5.

Those are good comparisons. Gretzky really was a genius hockey wise, he probably has the best hockey mind ever conceived. Coaching the game is another story though.

I am a Lemieux fan through and through. But in my opinion, not only is Gretzky the best hockey player ever, but the best athlete in a team sport ever. His numbers (compared to peers) are so ridiculous that it defies comprehension.

If you've ever stood next to him in street clothes, he may be the most unimpressive professional athlete you will ever see. Which I guess, in a way, is very impressive.

I can see how he'd be a terrible coach though..."So guys, what you should do here is a no-look behind the back pass to the streaking winger on the far-side. On your backhand. Why can't you guys see that?"

I sat next to Gordie Howe on a flight from John Wayne to DTW in 2004.

He was nice, talked to me for a bit, signed a photo I gave to my father but ended up falling asleep pretty quickly into the flight.

I was to young and dumb at the time to realize how cool that was.

Ha.

In game 6 of the 2012 final, an ex Shark took a stupid penalty that cost Peter DeBoer and the Devils big.

Kings really need Doughty to sometimes make plays like the one Letang just made. Love DD and think he is the best defender in the world, but he needs to do more offensively at ES.

What a game so far. Pens have had so many chances to bury one and haven't capitalized. Its probably going to come back and bite them in the *****.

The Penguins have had enough grade A chances to be up 7-1 right now. Flubs, stupidity and some great saves by Jones keeping this game close.
