Around Hockey XXV (All Non-Jackets Hockey Talk Here)

Not sure how the top of the draft compares to Lindstrom but this is also potentially quite a misfire in addition to passing on Demidov

For anyone interested in some seven-year-old content on the topic, and some quality writing to boot!

At the same time, Dubois is just a kid. Just a few months removed from being a teenager, Dubois might be as likely to have his nails painted by teammate David Savard's daughter or play with Savard's young son in the park as he is to score a hat trick.

During the 2017-2018 season, Dubois' first in the NHL, the then-19-year-old lived with the Savards, providing them with a live-in babysitter and sometime dishwasher, but mostly enjoying a comfortable off-ice environment, easing the young player's transition into professional hockey and adult life.

“For them to always be open and leave me the choice to go or stay, it was big,” Dubois said of the Savards' open-ended offer to live with them, which became a season-long arrangement. “It's a lot of work mentally and physically to play in the NHL. I'm not complaining. Playing is fun. Practice is fun. Going on the road, being with guys is fun. But it takes a toll, and to live with David and not always have to worry about groceries or even sometimes laundry, and being with the kids, just being in a family environment. … The biggest part is to have company, to have people around you. I'm a big family guy.”

“I knew David from coaching him in juniors, so I was really happy,” Eric Dubois said of the arrangement. “Here's a good person and good role model. For me and my wife, it was a relief.”

Before moving home for the summer (he actually rented an apartment in Montreal to be closer to where he trained), Dubois found an apartment of his own here in Columbus. It was time for the next step. “Now it's all me with food, money, shopping, rent, groceries,” Dubois said. “[I'm living] an adult life for the first time.”

Saw a thing on the socials that JF is calling tonight’s NYR game on TNT with Sam Rosen. I get annoyed too at the attention given NY teams as though everyone everywhere knows and cares, but it’s kinda cool to have them reunite.

I do wonder (since there is rumors that Howard and Tampa org are at odds because they won’t guarantee him NHL ice time) if Tampa will look to deal him this summer for a win now piece rather than lose him for nothing this summer. I guess it would depend on if he’d be willing to sign for the team that would acquire him and forgo the senior year.

I would also expect if he were to hit UFA a year from now that Waddell would be interested

Is he good enough to get a guarantee of NHL ice time? That seems like a big ask.

It would be nice to get a prospect for free, of course, so if Howard and Lindstrom get along and CBJ staff (who will be there a lot) can sway Howard then it's cool if he signs with us next year. I don't think we should do an NHL ice time guarantee.

Several "ifs" here but if Howard actually returns for his senior season and if Lindstrom returns healthy from his back issues, adding in that Augustine is returning, Sparty got a big transfer in defenseman Colin Ralph and also have incoming freshman Ryker Lee (borderline 1st rounder this summer). They have reloaded...might be better than 2024-2025.

What a night for the young scorers from San Jose and Anaheim last night.

Celebrini 3G, 2A.

Will Smith with 1G, 3A. I can now say that I was wrong about Will Smith. I thought he could eventually become a big scoring winger, but he's already getting there now, shortly after turning 20. His motor has improved.

Then watch the highlights of the two Leo Carlsson to Cutter Gauthier goals. Cutter obviously with the lightning release. Leo on the first goal accepts the puck into space in front of him and takes one step - and the Flames defenders are already in trouble with his quickness. Then again in OT he absolutely burns Coronato. There is great vision and passing here but the mobility is incredible. I think some scouts need to re-evaluate what they missed on his skating, because he's 20 and already a big problem in the NHL with his quickness, and one of the fastest players in the league.

Those were some nice goals indeed. Carlsson has been very impressive of late, pretty much the whole season too. He's already great and only getting better.

Celebrini and Smith doing better than I expected too. Seems like the locker room is pretty good too, Sharks sseem to have a bright future for sure.

Of course the Habs vs Sens is a big game for us but there is one other big game on the schedule.

Wild - 93 Pts and three games to play
Blues - 93 Pts and two games to play
Flames - 88 Pts and four games to play

The Wild are in Calgary tonight and if the Flames can win in regulation the Flames will be just three points behind Minnesota and St Louis with one and two extra games to play.

Gabriel Landeskog plays tonight with the Avs AHL affiliate Colorado Eagles. Wish this guy all the best and keeping my fingers crossed for him. It's been a long battle back into a game and hope he can manage his pain and be a contributor again. I am not home tonight but would watch if I could...it's a freebie as being advertised on TheAHL.com.

Must be nice, sliding in a recently drafted player that then played a great season, right into your lineup like a trade deadline deal. Cough

Anyway, Habs lose so playoffs are still on the menu
