It's unfortunate but the Caps are going to be a problem for a long time.

I find the Caps interesting because they appear to have successfully retooled instead of bottoming out and rebuilding. Roy, Thompson, and PLD were good moves. It is almost like a defensive minded right D, a decent goalie, and a 2nd line center are important for a hockey team. Then add McMichael and Protas as really good draft picks. They still have guys like Ryan Leonard, Ryan Chelsea, and others in the pipeline.

Yes and a year ago all the typical voices were saying they needed to blow it up and intentionally suck, because apparently that's how you make a good hockey team, by blowing everything up and intentionally sucking.

I have no real reaction to the fight or anything (how strong is that Savoie kid though?) and don't have all the context of the play, but the clip immediately starting with Jiricek on the wrong end of a 2on1 against is showing me he hasn't changed much in Iowa.

He’s got one point with them in 7 games. From reading the Wild board it sounds like Iowa is a mess. Was funny that some of their fans thought he’d jump into their nhl lineup immediately after the trade when he couldn’t even crack ours

That Blackwood contract has a high probability of being Elvis-esque in short order, don't understand committing to a goalie for five years after only four games played.

And to think that Guerin was just shopping this guy over the summer! Half the league (including us) could have had him.

Minnesota lost that game 6-1 against the Avalanche. Purely from stats: Jiricek was +- 0, had 4 giveaways (highest among Minnesota D) but played 16:01 and 19 shifts. Seems like an ok debut as such.

Unrelated, this caught my eye in the Carolina-Toronto (6-3) game: "Matthews and Mitch Marner were each minus-6." Pretty rare for those guys.

Also found this interesting, Dallas lost to Ottawa, and:

The Stars last won in Ottawa on March 6, 2016 (2-1).

I guess these things happen. Glad we got rid of our Pittsburgh curse!
