Still lucky I blocked it before. 🙂 I'm a big fan of Patrik's, but he's not our player anymore. I'll keep an eye on him, but there's no point in having an open thread about him.
Yep, have DarkandStormy add him to the former CBJer list and give us biannual updates for those that are curious.

Gloating invites the "told you so" response.
The rules are the rules regardless and that's always how it has been. Kicking a fanbase while they're down is never okay. A handful of Habs posters being know-it-all jerks do not represent the whole and do not justify that kind of response towards other Habs fans.

To be perfectly frank, if I had moderator powers on that forum, I'd have locked the thread too. There's already a mains discussion about the hit.

What rule closes a thread as soon as someone gets injured?

If kicking a fanbase while down actually applied, then many threads that the Jackets are involved in should be closed early on.

Per rules against moderator action disclosure I'm not at liberty to reveal details. I will note, though, that the existence of a thread about the hit on the mains made the closure of the trade thread much more likely. (That's the basis on which I'd personally have made the call if it was me.)

Thread closures aren't common but post cleanup is and that's frequently done. Again, per disclosure/privacy rules I'm not at liberty to be more specific. If you have continued concerns about the policy, there's a "Contact Us" link at the bottom of every page that puts you in touch with the admin staff.

Believe me, the way the Jackets fanbase gets kicked around on the mains sometimes drives me up a wall as much as any of y'all. And I do personally do what I can where possible.

Sadly, we have a contract with Delaware North. Jeremy Jacobs's only purpose is to nickle and dime everyone to death. They'll never lower anything at NWA.

A lot of ex-Jackets waived in recent days in addition to Meyer. Josh Dunne, Lane Pederson (remember him?), Kevin Connauton, Brendan Gaunce...

Anyhow, the best news of today: Patrik Laine will be out 2-3 months for the Montreal Canadiens because of a left knee sprain. He will not require surgery. How accurate that proves to be we'll see, but maybe his season is back on and career likewise. Fingers crossed no setbacks.
That is great but I feel sorry for David Reinbacher. 20 year old guy and already having knee problems again, out 5-6 months due to a collision with a Toronto player in the same game (really unfortunate collision). This may hold him back in his development.

Carson Meyer was waived by Anaheim. Proud former Jacket and Powell product.

Can someone explain why Meyer and Dunne weren't brought back for Cleveland?

That one I don't get.

Is there a chance maybe it was mutual, to give the guys a better chance at some other clubs? We have some higher profile guys who might be knocking on the door this year, i.e. Brindley, DBB (maybe?), with enough similar guys like Pyyhtiä around as well, so it'd be tough for Meyer, Dunne or Gaunce to make it I guess. Disappointing to let Sweezey go, but the same argument could be used...

Shame they didn't crack the lineups elsewhere though.

I agree with everything you said but the last comment should make fans realize the CBJ decision makers were likely right about those players. They are solid AAA players but they are NHL healthy scratches. The only reason the three guys mentioned above played NHL games for Columbus was mostly out of injury needs. These guys either have to be happy being AHL veterans or take their skills overseas.

They also let their best defensive D Sweezey go instead of Clayton.

Perhaps the plan is to give more responsibility for younger guys this year?

Gambrell comes in higher in the AHL lineup than Dunne and Meyer. And I have a clear preference for Carson Meyer over Owen Sillinger.

You would wonder but then they signed with Anaheim and Buffalo, two other teams that are overflowing with middling forward prospects just like the Jackets are.

I don't think we're confused about whether they're NHL regulars. It is just that they were effective call-up players for us. Meyer was consistently a good call-up who got good results. Dunne was a rock solid defensive center at 6'4. I just watched the AHL playoff run where he really stepped up and drew a lot of praise as a leader, so I was wondering why him. Both are guys you give dirty minutes to while the young prospects get offensive deployment.

I was listening to a hockey podcast the other day and they were discussing the hockey schedule and said some interesting things I had never really given much thought to.
  • The NHL and NHLPA will likely consider shortening the pre-season and extending the regular season by two games. The argument is that the players train all year and even play summer hockey so they don't need an extended training camp anymore. Also most teams have very few spots up for grabs from year to year anymore.
  • The NHL would like to get the SC hoisted no later than June 10th rather than late June.
  • Said the NHL would likely consider starting the season earlier (right now maybe by October 4th vs the October 8-10 range) but that its the networks (specifically ESPN) which wants the NHL to start later to not interfere with the World Series as much.
Personally I really dislike June hockey. It makes no sense. Once the weather turns nicer and the sun stays out longer I lose interest in sitting inside to watch sports on TV. As the league continues to put more teams down south and climate change F!@#s with the weather it seems pushing the season late into June is baffling. They really should be working to end the season earlier...not later. Even June 10th seems too late for me and it should be a goal to end the season by May 31.

I know the league will never do it because they don't wanna lose revenue but the regular season should be more like 74 games...not 82 or 84. The quality of the hockey would be better because the players would be a little more rested and it puts more importance on each regular season game. I still remember the lockout shortened 1994-1995 48 game regular season. It was like a mad dash from game one to the end of season...every game was important...it was awesome.

Way to go NHL...start the regular season and put it on a network a large percentage of fans and the general public do not get. Freaking brilliant marketing

Uhmm, so Devils and Sabres already played a regular season game while everyone else is still playing preseason games. Well done NHL, well done.

EDIT: also NHL.com made no effort to make this clear in any form or fashion, like on the game schedule it wasn't emphasized over pre-season games or maybe it wasn't even listed readily visible

EDIT2: getting off-topic if I wasn't already but what is this schedule, games start 5th of October (other than the sneaky global series) and CBJ plays first game on the 10th?

Games start on October 8th. You were fooled by the schedule (or more likely the Scores page?). The actual Schedule page has them listed as normal or "Preseason".

It's confusing though. Why they did it is that they wanted the teams in the Global Series to have an easier time travel and wear wise, i.e. their schedule is drawn out a bit more compared to other teams to account for the travel. This is probably better than travelling during the season. Maybe there's more they can do in the future though, increase the teams and play a mini series and then have a bigger rest while returning back...

Either way confusing the way they display it on the website and have preseason games running the same time. Running a long preseason means ticket revenue though, so I bet it's all a big compromise and this is what we got this year... (And see Doggy's post above for thoughts on 84 games etc.)
