I'm still of the opinion that it was the right thing to do. He's thriving with a change of scenery, it happens a lot in the world of sports. Dumping his salary and receiving some pieces that might actually help us win the Cup some day was the best thing we could've done with the hand we were dealt.
In the span of 18 months, Derick Brassard, John Moore, Derek Dorsett, and a 6th-round pick turned into:
- 4 games of Matt Frattin, which turned into
- 0 games of Jerry D'Amigo, which turned into
- 0 games of Luke Adam, plus
- A 2nd-round pick two years after the original trade, plus
- A 2nd-round pick, which was traded for
- A 3rd-round pick (Elvis Merzlikins) and a 2015 3rd-rounder
The abbreviated version:
- Derick Brassard
- Derek Dorsett
- John Moore
- 6th-rounder
For:
- Luke Adam
- Elvis Merzlikins
- Toronto's 2015 2nd-rounder
- Detroit's 2015 3rd-rounder
Also consider that Dorsett was later traded straight-up for a 3rd-rounder. And I have my doubts that Luke Adam will be a piece that might help this team win the Cup some day, but that's just me.
