Both SCF teams are looking very tired... it shouldn't be much longer... 11 minutes left in 3OT...

That said, buckle down C-Bus folks, the radar does not look good..

Heading into the third overtime ... unreal. It's times like these when I love being on the West coast...

And it's times like these when I think games should all be played in the afternoon.

Sorry I missed the second game. Thought Boston lost a bit of zip somewhere in the late 2nd early 3rd while Chi got stronger as the game went on. Don't know what the ot's looked like but it must have been pretty good.

Kind of hard to see the finals be one team that treated it's fans like crap for decades, and the other team which treated the entire league's fans like crap for 4 months.

Real good back and forth in the overtimes. I could watch Chicago play all day long. When they get things going, they just swarm and put on tons of pressure.

Good. The current team hasn't made the cup finals since Malkin's rookie deal.

The team has too much money tied up in too few players. The lack of depth (and awfulness of Fleury)

It will be interesting to see how they fill out the rest of their roster. If they re-sign Letang to the type of contract he deserves, won't they have three players taking up about $25M of the cap. Some players have got to go. Fleury? Do Iginla and Morrow re-up? Very interesting.

I just admire the guys work ethic, he brings the puck to the net hard & fast - good passer, good on draws, will hit & back check. Basically one of top five players in the league.

Just cause people hypothesize that he wanted to leave the chance to go to the KHL doesn't make it so I guess

Also resigned the coach for 2 years - I though Mario wanted him gone? Stupid news reporters.

The Penguins will have 30% of their payroll the next two years tied up in two players. That's going to create some interesting team building strategies. They do have young players ready to contribute so that clearly helps but man that's an off balance payroll in my opinion. Not like it could be avoided given the elite player status. Just going to be challenging for them to fill in the roster...with quality

Maybe it's because I live in the boonies north and west of downtown Columbus, or maybe because of my gig I understand how local news is handcuffed (which is not an excuse for being crappy, which it also often is, but that's a whole other issue) or perhaps I'm just too old to have much outrage any more, but I don't see the big deal.

That said, I'm not going to start listing the potential beefs and the explanations for each.

Yes, I love hockey. Yes, it was annoying and interfered with my watching of a great game. OK.

Puck Daddy talks about our awesome viewing of the game last night

http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nhl-p...game-1-stanley-cup-final-photo-180304295.html

Good read.....What the networks did was so incredibly lame, NBC takes the cake though as they actually had a prime time sporting event live preempted so fat boy Ganal could dissect the DERECHO!!! For 6 freaking hours and it wasn't evening affecting Franklin County....Hell or any county connected to Franklin (Union, Madison, Delaware,et).

Good to know that I and my fellow farm-dwellers are less legitimate.

I guess it's true what they say. City folks just don't get it.

I was in WNY during last night's game so I missed what I think you are referring too... the storm and interruption of the hockey game..

I love hockey too but if the weather that I saw on the Columbus radar last night was in my area it would have been my priority..., not hockey.

A ticker across the top of the screen with a small window of an active radar would have sufficed, it didnt need to be the meteorologist rehash marathon it ended up being. They sat there and went over the same thing over and over and over, thats what was annoying

I understand, that said, there were Tornado warnings (not watch) just north of Columbus... had one formed....; enough as we (I'm) way off topic...

The game last night was a must win for the Hawks, this series may now go 7 games... A real classic is coming imo....

Last nite's overdramatization of the weather was ridiculous. As someone said, an update across the bottom of the screen would have been sufficient. Fact is nothing serious was happening and you have weather geeks babbling for hours over the fact that nothing was happening.

Is it just me or do recent and assumed signings seem to disregard the salary cap going to 64 mill? Are teams assuming the cap is going to rise rapidly so why not splurge on the big guys? Or is it I have to sign my stars and its the 3rd & 4th liners that are going to get screwed?

For the Penguins it's sign the stars and let the role players come to a winner.

But I also think a lot of us have overestimated the impact of the dropping cap. With the buy-outs, there's a lot of flexibility.

It's not the 3rd- and 4th-liners who are going to bear the brunt. It'll be the 2nd-liners and 2nd-pairing guys who get squeezed, just as I predicted 8 years ago.

In a world where the stars get the big bucks (because their teams cannot afford to lose them), it leaves less for everyone else. The cheapest way to fill out a roster is by signing 4th-liners and sticking them on the 3rd line, banking on their net negative production being more than offset by being able to keep the 1st line and 1st pairing. It's what we saw in the NFL.

On the plus side, the number of good quality guys who will be left out will make a two-team expansion viable. I still think that an announcement could be made tomorrow, with the team suiting up in two or three years, and the game would not be negatively affected.

Just wow. Goalie interference much Chicago?

Refereeing continues to suck in my opinion. No penalty on a clear slash on Marchand on a breakaway. And numerous others. Thornton 3 ft in the air on a check in the 1stm Numerous trips not being called.

Rooney was one of the two refs in the first SCF game. Nuff said.

(how the HELL did he get that assignment?!?)
