Sure but we've seen that reasoning used around here for years as a way to justify a better return that never happens.
That's because the expected outcome is no return - i.e. no trade. If him being traded becomes more plausible, the expected return changes. Right now, tho, this sure sounds like a "folks are coveting but they ain't selling unless you pay something stupid" scenario to me.

Dunno there is a whole lot of smoke, combined with a struggling team looking to possible make a move to fix some things and I don't think its that crazy to think its way more plausible than fans think.

There is a more widely reported Cozens for Pettersson trade circulating.

We don't have anything in that ballpark.

Fans generally pay attention to what their beat writers and insiders have to say, and I take more interest in the seller's perspective rather than the buyer's. There are many prospective buyers but only the one seller, so it's their opinion that counts and which determines whether or not a move actually gets made.

The question never was really if he could still put up points, it really was a matter of whether he could stay healthy enough that it would really matter.
Very true, but in the scenario he DIDN’T stay healthy, we could’ve gotten rid of him in two years. Whereas Marchessault is here until the turn of the decade..

I didn't want to trade positive value assets for the Laine gamble, when all the Columbus fans were asking for the moon. But when he actually went at significant negative value? Well... that was a miss for any team that had the Cap space. Not many teams did have the Cap space, however. By August, we didn't.

Well approaching nhl trade freeze for Christmas. Hoping for something interesting to happen
Methinks they'll win two out of the three games before the holiday break, head into the break having won 4 out of 6, and in their minds "are clearly trending towards better times".

Eh Fiala is what he was always going to be, Gretzky in his own mind, but not so much on the ice. Nothing about his game has changed no matter what team he has been on.
Fiala had 0.475 PPG for Nashville. Fiala has 1.183 PPG AFTER NASHVILLE.

That is 2.49 times the point production that he had for the Preds.

Is that the result of more NHL experience, or better coaching? I believe that latter.

He tried to be Gretzky in Milwaukee too. It did not work well in some games. I thought that he came to Milwaukee before he was mentally mature enough to play in the AHL.

When you are in 32nd place, 31st place looks inviting! It is still second to last in the NHL.

It is good that the NHL does not have relegation like pro soccer in the UK.
