Trotz.had a good interview today on 102.5. I really like the human (loved growing up with his kids) but I really don't trust his words as GM. His actions with the young guys seem very different than his words.

He also mentioned that had it built into their models that guys would regress this year so they got offensive help in Stamkos and Marchy to keep the goal rate up.

Ummm Barry, you said you didn't want to be mushy middle but you went out and made moves to ensure that is where we would be.

Lastly, my impression of Trotz really is he is more interested in helping coach Brunnette to be a successful NHL coach than develop our players.

Canes fan here. Curious what package you think would get it done for Ryan O'Reilly.

Would there be any interest in O'Reilly for

2025 1st round pick
Jack Drury
Noel Franson

I think a 1st has to be part of the package, and it makes sense to also deal Kotkaniemi or Drury (I'd imagine you'd much prefer Drury who isn't signed for forever). I'd also imagine a prospect would need to be included. Noel Franson was our 3rd round defenseman from last year who is 0.5 PPG for Allsvenskan. I think it's fair to also include a prospect but I wouldn't do Nikishin or Artamanov. I'm not sure what Nashville's organization needs are in the system.

I think we can all agree here that Trotz won't trade O'Reilly.

It's not that your offer isn't in the realm of what it might take in a vacuum/fantasy league type of scenario. But I think Trotz is really married to O'Reilly, he has made such a big deal about him, I don't believe he will ever let him go for anything short of a truly insane overpay. Unless O'Reilly asked him to. Which we don't have any real reason to think is likely to happen either. :dunno:

Let's be honest.

None of the players from a "winning culture" will be traded unless they demand out.

I wonder if our "winning culture" includes the homegrown boys like Lauzon and Sissons, though. They weren't quite the same investment and PR as O'Reilly, but may be similarly valued here, a notch lower. I wish Sissons was having a better season. But those are guys who are usually gold at the TDL. At their peak + TDL market peak, they are each the kinds of guys who sometimes draw 1sts at the TDL. It's a lot to hope for, acknowledged. But not completely outside the realm of possibility if they were both playing at max potential/visibility. Which unfortunately Sissons at least is definitely not atm. Maybe THAT's a reason to plug him in as #1C while O'Reilly is out. Screw the kids! :sarcasm:

I echo what others have said. That package doesn't entice me into moving O'Reilly. He's very valuable for us and barring an overpayment other teams won't ultimately make, I wouldn't trade him. I believe Trotz feels the same way.

Probably hold onto RoR unless someone really offers something stupid (kindof like the Jeannot trade but with RoR holding even more value). If we get a top 5 pick this season, draft a high end center prospect then when we trade RoR we can target a D or G prospect (whichever is of greater need at the time).

Start of RoRs last season we will have:
Svechkov, Surin, 2025 draft pick, Edstrom all looking to make impacts down the center at the NHL level.
