1) He's 1" and 10lbs bigger. Big whoop. Not like he uses it to his advantage
2) Being a better skater than an already elite skater is great, but he doesn't translate that skating into extra scoring chances or offense, despite playing with the big guns.
3) his shot might be "much better", but yet Ehlers 5v5 G/60 (1.01) is higher than Connor's (.97) since he entered the NHL full time in 2017-18.
4) everybody knows that others fans favor certain players over others for whatever reasons despite there being no evidence to support their claims. Even with us Flames fans, people think the ones who view Tkachuk as our best forward over Gaudreau are crazy and vice-versa. Saying "x fans value x player more" is a terrible argument.

Yeah Connor just has elite upside, Ehlers I don’t think does. I’ve watched the Jets lots especially last season, Connor stands out. Ehlers while he does dazzle at times by going end to end, is a great skater and puck handler, lacks finish and elite offensive upside that Connor has. I think Connor is a much better player and I’ll be happy to revisit this after this season ends.

Hmmm James Neal -3 tonight in a 6-1 loss to the Canucks. I know, it's only pre-season but that doesn't look good on paper.

Oil fans are in for a rude awakening when they thought they were getting an actual asset or player.
Didn't watch the game but Neal finished the night with the 3rd highest fwd TOI at 16:49 with a +/- of -3 with 1 SOG and 2 PIM and Zero goals and Zero assists.
The funny part is in their GDT how many HFOil fans are carrying on how great he looks, how great his shot is, and how they really put one over on the Flames (to paraphrase).

Probably no surprise...team has no real roster or cap space.
Up front Dube or Quinne may get a spot. Jankowski should be gone but he wont.
On defense, which of Kylington, Stone, MacDonald or Davidson gets the 6th and 7th spot?
On goalie, Gillies earned the number 1 spot....if we are tanking for Lafreniere/Byfield

When does Stockton's camp start? Because most cuts will come maybe 2-3 days prior to that.
Wouldn't surprise me to see the goalies cut to 2 today in order to give Talbot and Rittich as much work as possible to get ready for the regular season. Playing anyone else would be foolish and if you're not going to play them why keep them.
First preseason game is in 6 days so I expect training camp to be up and running by Monday if it isn't already.
They only play 2 preseason games
Anything lower than ECHL? Not sure that its fair that Nick Schneider loses his #1 spot to Gillies.

So yeah the big cuts could be happening. They always only play 2 preseason games as most players have had camps with NHL teams.
Gillies is not eligible to be sent to the ECHL because he's not on an ELC, if you are going to be continually negative about him, at least say things that makes sense.
Safe to say Gillies will not be qualified next season. Unless he has some kind of massive turnaround, I can't imagine either side will want to continue forward.
