Speculation: Armchair GM - 2026 CBJ Offseason Roster Moves, Rumors, and Discussion

Didn't want Tkachuk (not on his list anyways) nor would I have the palate to spend that many picks at this juncture. I will be in wait and see mode with a lot of the other trades/signings that happen in the next few weeks before making my judgement. Probably going to be a lot of overpays in free agency (don't mind the CBJ staying out of it). But if some trades happen at prices we could match, I will jump on the wagon I feel like 75% of this board is already on.

I would have felt much more comfortable spending assets like that if we had made playoffs with a cushion. I'm not a fan of spending big before team oriented results.

Im sure Ottawa will flip some of those picks for an impact forward anyways.

A thought on the Brady Tkachuk trade:

I find this ironic that the NBA which has typically always been top heavy is in a golden era of parity and the NHL is in its superteam era. One factor that I think plays a part in this is the cap skyrocketing. As the cap continues to rise, the elite teams don’t have the need to shed salary to get under the cap. That allows them to continue to buy like never before.

So yes, player empowerment is real. And being from Cleveland and living through not one, but two LeBron eras, I’m used to seeing this type of thing in the NBA where teams have to add to appease their stars. Just different to see it in the NHL.

Welcome to bizarro sports.

I slightly worry a turnaround from this team may not be fast enough for Werenski to like. I'm all for players doing what they want but the way some of the player names pop up is a bit concerning.

The issue is Waddell cannot afford to sit back but do we really have any strong assets other than 14, Smith and a team betting on KJ rebounding which is not much either? Voronkov has run into multiple seasons off conditioning issues making him hit a wall. HIs value has gone down along with KJ. Lindstrom is another conversation but that's not a great asset either.

Honestly, I fear we are headed towards an NBA style league where guys join up on teams when they get older.
Its the name noone wants to hear but if Waddell is going to make a big boy trade it might need to be Mateychuk

So will the Jackets have like anyone to potentially trade for now? It's seems like they are really only looking at DeBrusk and truthfully, like many others on here, I don't think he improves this team.

Going off that report, we are looking at McCann too.

That was McMann

Edit: or maybe McCann re-signing too.

Honestly I don’t know at this point.
We were in on McMann during the season who just re-signed (and probably pushed Marchment up to a 7x6 with that signing)

We are now linked to McCann but he isn't following Waddell's strategy of trading with term. He only has 1 year remaining.
