Speculation: Armchair GM - 2026 CBJ Offseason Roster Moves, Rumors, and Discussion

Times like this makes me kind of wish the NHL would adopt a compensatory draft picks system the same way the NFL does. You may have teams more willing to let players walk in UFA if they’re getting something out of it in the end.

Jenner and Marchment might each be signing their last contracts this summer. I'm not surprised although I'll miss each if they aren't signing here.

Marchment especially. Found his way later than most so this expiring contract was actually his 1st after his ELC. Im curious to see what he eventually gets and maybe even more curious with the where. Youd think he'll be a little sensitive on fit after the Seattle situation

Ideally, McMann and Debrusk, tbh. They need to replace Marchment's 5 on 5 and they desperately need a PP guy.

To be clear, not totally opposed to the idea of DeBrisk, just if that ends up the essential replacement for Marchment.

Debrusk had a 0.93 P/60 last year. That's lower than Monahan and KJ had. It would have tied Lundestrom with the lowest 5v5 scoring rate among Jackets forwards.

Are they paying us to take him?

I'd assume the cost is close to basically nothing in this scenario.

With how bad the Jackets are on the PP, I'll take Debrusk and sit him on the 4th line until it's time for the PP. He also adds a dimension of speed that I'd love to see the Jackets get more out of their team.

This is the first time he's topped 20 powerplay points. I don't think you can rely on him being a PP upgrade. What works on one team's top unit won't work on the next, unless you're talking about adding a player who is supremely skilled. Debrusk certainly isn't that.

Im imaging Waddell working on whatever hes trying to do until the draft and if that fails he'll panic and throw major $ at our guys again. I do wonder if Jenner wants to leave and Jarmo still has good feeling towards the player if they swap rights for Tuch or something like that

I hope DW doesn’t wait until draft and says he giving up the 14th for Debrusk. Then he tries to convince the fans we are better. Literally Coyle and then nothing? I am starting to believe Tulsky was the brains behind Carolina.

:D We are still 5 plus days out from the draft .. Going to be an active summer ..

The issue is Waddell cannot afford to sit back but do we really have any strong assets other than 14, Smith and a team betting on KJ rebounding which is not much either? Voronkov has run into multiple seasons off conditioning issues making him hit a wall. HIs value has gone down along with KJ. Lindstrom is another conversation but that's not a great asset either.

Honestly, I fear we are headed towards an NBA style league where guys join up on teams when they get older.
