Speculation: Armchair GM - 2026 CBJ Offseason Roster Moves, Rumors, and Discussion

So then why did the media stir up all this stuff right now?

We clearly aren't allowed to negotiate a new deal yet and if he's not demanding to be traded, then why is this such an issue other than people just trying to stir up some sh*t.

Going to basically agree with the slight adjustment to say he may already have an ultimatum to "start winning or trade me next year" from Z - net result is the same in terms of triggering everything we're seeing and hearing. Which puts GMDW in an even tighter bind because now he knows he has to make something happen, and soon.

I said it a while back: I don't know that Z's window and our window align well anymore. Unless we get something big and difference-making, I think we might be a playoff team, but not a true contender, for the next few years, and by then Z's time as a top 4 d-man in the world may be over. We haven't made the playoffs in 6 years (or whatever) - so it's not like trading him now signals the end of some perennial-contender-era. It's just a couple more years in the wilderness.

So if we need to trade him, do it now and get named actual human beings - NO DAFT PICKS I AM SICK OF USELESS DRAFT PICKS. I'd target draft year + 2 guys with high upside. Get 2 forwards and a d-man, call it good and go. That is: if we know Z has provided an ultimatum.

Unless Waddell somehow thinks he has a roster that can make a title run this year with a few peripheral free agent adds, Werenski is gone. You cant allow a high value depreciating asset to depreciate even more. And if Werenski was determined to retire as a Blue Jacket you would extend him now. There are no reports that is being discussed. I just hope they make a better deal than they did under duress for Nash.

They can't extend him now. He still has 2 years left on his deal

remember: even if waddell convinces werenski to stay past this contract, he’s still maneuvered so that this team will, at that point, have very few good young assets and a bunch of old guys signed to or beyond 40 years old!

Mark my words, I bet there are people within the building with doubts on Marchenko's ceiling based on his late season play and inability to adjust when he got hit with physical play.

People here love him and wanted to attribute his late season play to injuries but we saw zero that confirmed anything about that. He might just be who he is.

If we do get into the playoffs, we can't have guy who disappear when the play gets physical.

Just looking at the long game here.

That being said, I'm not sure what Montreal would be willing to give up in return to make it worth it.

Like legit it would have to include 2 of the 3: Zarovsky, Hage and/or Reinbacker

Marchenko is an RFA he doesn't go for a 1st, prospect and player

Stop with nonsense. They have one contract on the books that brings a player to 40 year old, Coyle. And Coyle is a guy you want in a locker room. No contract currently on the books brings any player to the age of 37 when the contract is up, let alone 40 so just stop. We get it, you hate Waddell, but don't lie.

If you want Marchenko is going to hurt. Your gonna have to give up Hage this aint a 1st round pick, player and prospect.

That's our only right handed sniper. You drop him you need to trade Z too as this is a true retool at this point

So does Marchy not want to extend then? Why on earth are they shopping him.
