Speculation: Armchair GM 2024-25 Season, Craig Conroy's Can Do Calgary Flames

Boqvist on waivers from Florida. Basically Barrie but probably better at this stage in his career. League minimum and RFA this summer

Might be worth a claim, could slide Weegar back to the left and play them together. He is kind of similar to what we have coming on the right side though, good offensive metrics but brutal defensively

I’d consider him as a stop gap, wouldn’t mind seeing what Huska can do with him either
I'd be down, then when Bahl return we could waive one of Barrie or Miro

I’d sooner call Poirier and/or Solo up before taking on any more dead weight.

I think that's kind of a guy that you take a buy low risk on. Probably a few other teams lower in the standings thinking the same thing I bet.

Two lefties, boqvist is a rightie

They’re already flush for RHs with Weegar, Raz, and Pachal (and to a lesser extent, Miro and Barrie). If Boqvist isn’t an improvement on that, it’s just more dead weight imo.

I would much sooner see Bahl (when he comes back), Poi, and Solo on the left side than the gong show that has been Hanley and Bean. Neither of the latter two should be anywhere near the top-four.

Yeah I mean I don’t disagree, odds are boqvist doesn’t work out but he’s only 24 and has the draft pedigree. Statistically the offensive impact is there as well, just wouldn’t mind seeing if Huska could clean up his two way game

All of Barrie, Miro, Bean, and Hanley do absolutely nothing for me, Paschal is fine on the third pair

If the Flames weren’t already set on the right side, I might be convinced to take a chance on Bo for the reasons you gave, but it’s strangely an area of strength for them. They should have had Poirier on speed dial the moment Bahl went down. Conny should call up Poirier AND Solo, and waive Bean and Hanley to the Wranglers so they don’t miss a beat in their quest for a chip. Solo and Pachal would be the perfect bottom pair imho.

Bahl - Weegar
Poirier - Raz
Solo - Pachal

I forgot he was a righty, we have enough already. I'd rather call up Solo

Poirier isn't ready, frankly I'm not sure he will ever be. We also don't need another offensive minded defenseman on the roster right now, Solo, Kuz or Grush would be much better choices.

I don’t know what else Poirier has to do to prove he’s “ready”. He’s come all the way back from last year’s injury, and his numbers are as good or better than what Razzy’s were with Stockton at around the same age. I don’t know where you get off saying the Flames don’t need another offensive-minded player when they’ve scored the fourth-fewest goals in the entire league. And it’s not just the offense that he would bring to their top-four; it’s his skating and poise with the puck. Defense can be taught, but skill is something a player just has. I’m sure working with Huska would serve to help him round out his game. Bean handles the puck like a damn hand grenade. Barrie skates like he’s constantly stuck in first gear. Hanley is probably the best of the three, but he doesn’t do anything that Solo doesn’t do as well or better. One of the guys here recently sold me on Kuznetsov, I didn’t realize he was leading the team in +\- by a fair margin. I still say Grush needs a bit more time so we can see what we truly have in him. At any rate, I think we can agree that there are far better options than what they are rolling with right now.

Future top 4D of:
Poirier-Parekh
Morin-Bru

There’s potential there if we can find a way to ice 12 Backlunds up front
