My point was Miro has no value and the only way a team would trade for him is for a similar level defenseman (or forward) to save cap space.

I think Ras will be sticking around until the summer at least. Personally if we got a package that included Yager/Lambert or Mav Bourque I think you have to make that trade this year. We need a top line centre in the worst way and Ras would be the only way to trade for one. I’m not signing him to an 8 year deal and that’s likely what he’s expecting to sign. So it’s likely he’s traded next season.

Depends what we're swapping for bad contract for bad contract or swap and open up cap space? Oilers for instance might consider a Jeff Skinner/Kuzy at 50% swap to open up a little cap. Get a late pick for the cap space. Not sure if we want to do so though... so just wondering if there's other ideas like that that could benefit the players and both teams.
Pretty sure Cooley is injured as well, was pulled after 40 on Friday night (which wasn't odd since he was getting lit up), but he hasn't dressed in the 2 games since
Ok, didnt know that. I was more commenting on the posts saying or implying Vladar should be traded, which would most likely mean Cooley in the NHL.
I know, I was just adding more info that makes a trade of Vladar less likely. Although, I'd take on Jarry if they Pens gave u a decent asset or 2. I don't think he's irreparably broken

I’ve thought Cozens was a fit here for a long time.
Just don’t think Calgary has the tangible assets. Wouldn’t be surprised to see Krebs here for a second rounder or something next month though.

All this talk about whether Ras will stay or not is so silly. As of today we are in a playoff spot, and we know he likes being a Flame. A month from now that could completely change, until we are pretty clearly out of the race (if at all) he's simply not going to be moved and discussing otherwise is pointless.
Sure we beat Chicago, but I think the loss of Zary is going to really show over the next little while and in February we will know what this team is and where they stand. Right now everywhere from playoffs to drafting as high as high as 5th OA is well within reach.

A very appropriate target. Contract seems inflated right now and the fanbase is very disappointed in him. I'd do it.
I'd take Jarry. He's not that bad and if they added a sweetener, I think it would make sense to buy low. Pens goalies flame out once they're a few years into their careers. Really weird.
Cozens and Norris both make a lot of sense.
Vladar and Kuzmenko for Jarry @ 50 and a 2nd in 2026. With Jarry still being owed 6.5m in signing bonuses, it'd be a shitty buyout for them, this saves them cap space compared to a buyout in 2 of teh next 3 years, as well as the cap penalty of about 800k per in years 4-6. Pens save 5-6l in actual dollars too.
Meanwhile Washington is a god damn Goalie factory. Holtby, Grubauer, Neuvirth, Varlamov, Samsonov, Vanacek
As well as taking risks on guys like Thompson and Lindgren (not drafted by them, but definitely either very early in their careers like Thompson, or first real chance at a significant role like Lindgren who has 131 career games over 9 years, and 102 of them have been with Washington over the last 3).
Jarry is awful and is signed for another 3 seasons after this one. Would take a lot to make me consider taking that on. Not really too big on Cozens or Norris either but I guess if the price is right I could be talked into it. Both have tons of term left too.
I think at this stage of the rebuild with some of the money we already have on our cap flexibility is key. We could tie ourselves to one other big contract right now and probably be fine. But money has a way of running out real quick when you need it.

Trade Ras for Cal Ritchie. No way do I think he’s a 8.5-9 million dollar player. Time to be progressive for once and not try to compete for a 9th or 8th place finish and lock ourselves into mediocrity for another decade. A few savvy moves and this team could be positioned really well.
Move Kadri+(maybe the plus is retention) for Cozens. Team in a couple years:

Prospect-Cozens-prospect
Prospect-Backlund-Pelletier

Not very realistic to think Buffalo would take Kadri. Kadri has a NMC too and I can almost guarantee Buffalo is a no go for him. Colorado is really high on Cal as well. They’ve shut down talks any time other GMs have asked about him. It’s easy to make those trades in NHL25. But not gunna happen in RL.

The only way I look at Jarry is if Pittsburgh is willing to do something absolutely stupid to make it happen.
Like if they attached an unconditional first to him. Then may as well have an overpaid backup for 3 years while also getting a chance at a lotto pick!

A lot of that was Mitch Korn. I've been saying for a while, getting the best goalie coaches is potentially worth more than a superstar. Ian Clark was the same for his work in Columbus and Vancouver. He's the guy who revived Markstrom and helped to develop a ton of guys in their pipeline.
Buffalo might not take Kadri, but I assume Kadri might consider Buffalo. I do think he has interest to be closer to home in Toronto.

I am loathe to copy the Oilers, but let's say there's concerns about contracts from both sides. Would signing our 3 guys to identical 6 x 6 be a good idea/feel fair for everyone? (Wolf, Zary and Coronato).

Looking at that 2019 draft and how random it was, I can't help but think we hit the best possible hit possible for the picks we had. We hit on Pelletier and Wolf with little other options immediately after those picks that would have been superior IMO. We didn't hit on our 3 mid round picks, but honestly speaking, with who else is succeeding in those rounds, it's pure greed to hope for anything else over the calibre of player we got in Wolf in the 7th. That's a draft that in hindsight you'd trade all those picks you used and more to get a player you hit on.

Kakko would be second in PPG only behind Jonathan Huberdeau (literally by a couple percent) since he joined the Kraken. Man, my narrative is out of control.
Still miffed the team missed on that one. I think NY really liked the depth Dman they got.
I don’t think Razzy is the difference between us being bottom 5 or 15th in the league. At this point it’s just Wolf. Like. It’s just Dustin Wolf guys. Without him playing this team is playing at a 69 (nice) point pace which would have us in the bottom 5. Unless wolf regresses or gets injured, this is sort of where we are folks. Team needs to get really creative and find some young forward help. Hence my disappointment with missing out on a ex-lotto pick for scraps.
