While the narrative has been that this trade was bad at present it seems like all 4 players involved are disappointments and, all in with the benefit of hindsight, it was a decent deal.

Stepan - has turned into exactly what the Rangers wanted to avoid. Paying a good 50ish point center, who happens to be one of the slower skating centers in the NHL, over 6 million per. Not really an impact player on the Coyotes - a serviceable top 6 forward but trending downward already.

Raanta - one of the better goalies in the league statistically. But can't stay healthy and the Rangers would only have had for one year more anyway.

7th pick/Andersson - consensus that this was a reach at 7 seems correct. Doesn't seem to be a high end talent. Ceiling may be 2nd line center but 3rd line center seems more likely. Blunder not taking Mittelstadt, the consensus choice.

ADA - has continued to be an enigma. Flashes his obvious talent; still has a chance.

Can we please stop this? Too early

The trade was very good. You got a 7th overall pick that you could have used to draft a dynamic player. (We didn’t but getting that pick was phenomenal)

DeAngelo is a hell of a player. Who seems to be maturing. I like him here long term way more than Pionk (I still think it’s eventually going to be one or the other with these guys)

You can't really evaluate trades in hindsight although we do it because we're human and it's in our nature. I agree with your premise though. Aside from Andersson, I think all the players and pieces in the trade will be out of the league or in the twilight of their career in a few years.

I unfortunately have to agree on Andersson, I don't think he'll be an impact player. In a few years, we will look back at this trade and ti will be irrelevant and forgotten in the future prospects of both clubs.

If that draft was redone today, Middlestadt would likely still be a top ten pick and Andersson would barely make it into the 1st round.

Yeah Mittelstadt is tearing the league apart.

In your opinion of a hypothetical situation, sure.

Mittelstadt has done nothing to separate himself from Andersson in a big way unless you're putting a ton of stock in those 6 games he played well last year.

They both have great potential and are trying to put it together at the NHL level as young players.
