Are we in Canada paranoid about 2026 or should we not be worried?

Appreciate the updates on stats and whose getting on heaters, I guess to look at the other end of the coin, who are guys you think are playing themselves off 2026 based off post 4Nations?

Marchand played himself off the team from the first game of the 24-25 season, but he was already named to 4-Nations.

Other than that, no one has really played themselves OFF. Some players have cooled off. I think Stone is unlikely return given his footspeed at 4-Nations. Konecny has cooled off a bit (not drastically by any means). He may be on the outside looking in due to his lack of production and size at 4-Nations. Injury didn’t do him any favours either.

Sam Bennett has cooled off from his hot start at the beginning of the season. If he gets off to the same start next season as this season, he’s likely to make the Olympics. His name value isn’t enough to make him a guaranteed lock by any means though.

Seth Jarvis is playing GREAT. However, I think Canada will look to add more size and him being the 13th forward means he’s likely the first one out. I love his game though and would not be surprised if he made it again.

No ONE has necessarily played themselves OFF the team necessarily, it’s just that players that were not named are HEATING UP. That’s the beauty of Canada’s depth.

I am a huge fan and I disagree about Seth Jarvis. Sam Bennett provide GRIT and he will be there.

Agree, Marchand, Konecny and Stone will NOT be there.

It might be more about what players will make their way IN.

Johnston is too hard to ignore.
Suzuki is overwhelming his competition.
We still haven't found a fast winger for McDavid that could be better than Celebrini even at his young age. I wouldn't say Celebrini is a lock at all given the history of team Canada leaving 20 years old home because of their age (Crosby...)

Stone could potentially keep his spot just because of the grit argument, lower in the lineup if we don't think Bennett should make it. This creates some interesting non-Cirelli options.

Celebrini - McDavid - Point
Johnston - MacKinnon - Marner
Stone - Suzuki - Reinhart (same structure as the top line in Montreal)
Hagel - Crosby - Holloway/Jarvis

* Suzuki is on fire - a goal and an assist. He is carrying Montreal. He should be considered for MVP.

* Sid with a hat trick - 28, 29, 30.

* Young Zac Bolduc with 2 goals.

* Jared McCann with 2 goals and an assist.

* Morgan Geekie with a goal and 4 assists. He is quietly having a career season playing only 17 minutes a night.

* Brayden Point with his 39th goal.

* Mark Scheifele with his 38th goal.

* Jake Neighbours with his 22nd goal - also having a career season.

* Robert Thomas with a goal and 3 assists.

* Travis Konecny with his 50th assist.

* Shane Theodore with his 45th and 46th assist.

* Macklin Celebrini with his 34th assist.

* Dylan Guenther with his 27th assist.

* Shane Wright with his 24th assist.

* Dylan Cozens is NOT PPG since going to Ottawa but he's close - he needed to get out of Buffalo. Doesn't everyone?

I don't know. Too old and slow for me.

Assuming the 2018 WJHC ban is lifted by Hockey Canada.

it is either Thomas or Kyrou at RW.
and either Holloway or Bennett at LW. (my preference is for Holloway)

And the Gold Medal favorite. BTW.

I don't know what you're so efffin paranoid about.

D HOLLOWAY / S BENNETT
N SUZUKI
R THOMAS / J KYROU

This is currently my 4th. line. It is, in my view, the only roster ????? remaining for the 2026 Oympic Team. to be answered by mid December.

That, and maybe the 8th. D-man. (Doughty being in the 8 spot.

T HARLEY
D DOUGHTY

That is an INSANE 4th line. WOW! Just WOW!!!!

Hockey Canada just needs to get off their collected asses and clear the names of players not involved - if I was on the list and not involved, I'd sue.

That's a plus for Suzuki.

Suzuki plays like Barkov, in deep grinding, having one slower player on his line that attracts the bodies frees him up to do damage. I could see Bennett or Holloway instead of Stone, but there's always one of these older players, now that Marchand is done Stone might be the guy.

Bennett's yeoman work at the 4NC will result in his inclusion in 2026. He fought Brady, he shut a ton of people down AND he scored an important goal.

Suzuki is in his prime, Holloway is younger than his prime, Stone and Marchand are well past their prime.

It is going to be very difficult to pick 13 in 2026. In 2030, it will be next to impossible.

* Morgan Geekie with his 29th goal - looks like everyone has been watching the wrong Geekie.

* Stamkos with his 25th goal.

* Thomas Harkey with his 16th goal.

* Nick Suzuki with his 57th assist.

* Dylan Strome with his 51st assist on O.V.'s record goal.

* Matt Duchene with his 50th assist.

* Connor Bedard with his 40th assist.

* Owen Power with his 33rd assist.

* Bowen Byram with his 29th and 30th assist.

When do we start talking about Connor Bedard?...

His sophomore season is a step back - or, if we want to be generous, a lateral move.

The negatives in Year 2 :

* Less points per game
* He had more Power Play points
* He looks lost / unsure of himself

The positives :

* His Game Winning Goals are up
* He's only 19
* The team around him is PURE garbage
* Talent wise, he has HUGE upside

A realist would say, "IF 0.78 PPG is as bad as it gets, the kid's going to be awesome. After all, how many players are close to PPG in the NHL at 18 and 19? However, if we are being completely honest, Year 2 was a disappointment."

To my eyes :

Bedard needs someone older with skill to play with. Perhaps a trade for Sid?...

As the article says, send some prospects to Pittsburgh in exchange for Sid and let the Master train the student.

Even if Sid is not in the cards, Bedard needs a "pick me up". Let's hope for a strong start in the Fall. Also, if I was Chicago, I'd tell Bedard to pack his bags for Sweden/Denmark - a Gold Medal would boost his confidence / help him feel good about playing hockey, again, before Bedard (and his family) decide Chicago is the problem and not the right place for Connor long term.

Any thoughts?

I think hes a winger. Fundamentally not sure hes fast enough to be a C in the NHL and play his game against better defensive centers. He can play center, but his defensive game might always be an issue. Why dont they dont let him rip like Mitchkov...they need to find him a good 2 way center.

If Crosby goes somewhere its Montreal. Childhood dream and they need a 2C for the next 2 years, fits in Crosby window. And Montreal with him is close to contending. Crosby would be the Center to Demidov....

Crosby is still so good that I’m 99% sure Suzuki would get the boot to the 2nd line with PK duties in this hypothetical scenario. That’s not a knock on Suzuki. It’s just that Crosby is still a top 10-15 player in the NHL.
