Are we in Canada paranoid about 2026 or should we not be worried?

How is journeyman Ryan Donato scoring at his highest rate ever and Connor Bedard can't but an assist?

Please God, don't let Chicago have ruined that kid.

**

* Seth Jarvis with 2 assist.

* Mark Scheifele with a goal and an assist.

* Sam Bennett with a pair of goals.

* 20 year old Denton Mateychuk is playing well for Columbus with a goal and an assist tonight.

* Bedard with an assist.

* LAF with a goal and an assist.

* Cuylle with an assist.

Montreal lost AGAIN. Someone in their forum said that Suzuki is out of gas after carrying the team for the entire season. That does not bode well for Suzuki playing at the World Championships.

* Jack Quinn with 2 goals and an assist against Philly. Another wonderful prospect Buffalo has not handled well.
Give this kid minutes and he will produce.

* Brayden Point with a pair of goals. If he'd played the whole season, 45 would have been doable. Maybe even 50.

* Robert Thomas with 2 assists.

* Dylan Cozens with an assist.

IF you count Joey Daccord as a Canadian (AND I DO :sarcasm: - get your passport, kid), 5 of the top 10 NHL goalies in terms of Save % are Canadian. How did THAT happen?

**********************************************************************************************

Byfield is still a year (or 2) away from being something special. I just wish he was meaner.
Put the fear of God in your opponent, QB.

No one in the East wants that 2nd Wild Card.

* There must be a LOT of truth to ^^that^^ because Suzuki got 1 goal and 2 assists and Montreal won.

* Jack Quinn remains hot with 1 goal and 2 assists.

* Seth Jarvis with a pair of goals - just TRY and keep this 200 foot player off Team Canada in 2026 !!!

* Sid being Sid with the Overtime winner (and only goal of the game) against Ottawa.

* Logan Stankoven with his 11th goal.

* Bedard with an assist.

* Owen Power with an assist.

* Dylan Guenther with an assist.

* Byfield with 2 assists.

* Jakob Chychrun has TWO goals - we need to get this guy BACK into a Canadian uniform.

According to A.I. Overview, when I asked about Chychrun's defensive abilities, it replied with...

Jakob Chychrun, a defenseman for the Washington Capitals, is known for his strong defensive awareness, shot blocking, and stick checking, with his EA NHL 25 player ratings reflecting these strengths.

Here's a breakdown of Chychrun's defensive attributes and stats:

  • Defensive Awareness: Chychrun's defensive awareness is rated at 87 in EA NHL 25.
  • Shot Blocking: He excels at shot blocking, with a rating of 88.
  • Stick Checking: Chychrun is also proficient in stick checking, also rated at 88.
  • Overall Defensive Aptitude: Chychrun is described as defensively adept at tracking the puck and staying ahead of the opposition, using his stick and body proactively to force hurried decisions.
  • 2024-25 Regular Season Stats: Chychrun has 18 goals, 26 assists, and 44 points in 66 games this season.
  • +/-: Chychrun has a +/- rating of +23.
  • Contract Extension: Chychrun signed an eight-year extension with the Capitals, ensuring his future in the US capital.
^^ @Drew4u - I am sure you know far more about what these stats mean than me. ^^

Jason Robertson, Tage Thompson and Alex Tuch are all heating up...

I'm NOT mad they were left at home from the 4 Nations Cup but, apparently, they are. :)

How can both Lafreniere and Byfield not be stars yet? Or ever? That is just strange. Both had blue chipper written all over them. This is 5 years after they were drafted, there should be a lot more progress by now.

Byfield looks great with LA - he is BIG, fast and everywhere. He just needs to be more aggressive and use his size more.
If I was going to bet on one of them breaking out BIG(!), it would be Byfield.

He reminds me of a young Tage Thompson - someone who, once he gets comfortable in his body, he'll becomes unstoppable.

As for LAF, I have NO idea what to make of him. To my eyes, BEST CASE, he becomes PPG in his mid/late 20's.

On the plus side : The Rangers are loaded up front and they really don't give LAF much/any PP time so, perhaps, there is potential.

On the minus side : LAF is NOT dominant - you can go long stretches without noticing him.

Agreed. I like Byfield’s game way more than Laf’s at this point. Also, if Canada wants size there’s plenty of better options in Wilson, Dubois and even Fantilli at this rate.

I watched QB the other night and he was everywhere. Having said that, as big as he is, as fast as he is, as good as his hands are, he does not seem to have the agility thing down, yet. Once he gets that, I could see him being a dominant force - somewhere between Anze Kopitar and Tage Thompson. I hope he gets there because he could be unstoppable.

Byfield will never be meaner lol - quit hoping.

So... He doesn't have a mean streak?
Being a Canucks fan and watching us play the Kings a lot, it doesn’t seem like it.

That’s not to say he isn’t “tough” or is “soft” by any means. He positions his big frame well to protect pucks and isn’t easy to knock off. That combined with his speed and ability to handle the puck at those speeds is what makes him so special. I don’t think there’s anyone who’s 6”4+ that handles the puck as well as Byfield on the break.

One part of his game that I like a lot is his front-of-net play. He’s not afraid to get in front of shots for a tap-in or a “garbage” goal.

I agree with you on the agility part, although it’s extremely hard to be VERY agile at 6”5, 225 lbs. I actually think he’s okay in that department. Could be improved on though. He’ll likely become more of a threat as he develops his playmaking more throughout his career.
