Are there too many similar color schemes among NHL teams?

I was just thinking about how no team's use purple as a primary.

Seattle and Utah's irritate/disappoint me the most currently. Seattle had a clean slate, but decided to go with the soft aqua color pallette like every single other professional Seattle sport team. Pretty lock step with their neighbors to the north Vancouver as well. While different, but still similar, you got San Jose's going teal since their day one.

Then a long comes Utah and decide to go with powder, err sorry "mountain blue", black and white. Not too far removed from divisional foe Winnipeg's color scheme. Utah and the NHL said they were not drawing on any Coyote history. I guess that included cool jerseys. Maybe there will at least be a visually interesting logo next season.

I get some teams are locked into their boring colors because of tradition, but when you got a fresh canvas to work with? C'mon.

We could use less black. Although it is not as bad as cars on the road all being black, white, gray, red. Or t-shirts generally being navy blue, dark green, and black. There is a severe lack of brown in both areas of jerseys and cars. Think t-shirts are pretty commonly brown though. We went from most cars being brown, to no cars being brown. Jerseys never were brown. Just alternate Bruins come to mind.

Wonder how seriously ownership takes color psychology when picking a jersey. And if the red/yellow Flames get hungry more often. Hmm.

Purple, Yellow, and White...Vikings or LSU Tigers

Purple, Orange, and White...Maybe like the Frankfurt Galaxy or a Serie A team that escapes me.

Neon/Lime Green, Blue, and White...Something like Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga.

Wish the devils would back to green and red
I’ve floated ducks go purple and orange (VT) but no one I mention it to likes it
Hershey bears have a great jersey and I don’t understand why no nhl club has tried brown black
If done right any of these could look great and original

Ps: sens current look is 90s devils rip off

Sens have had those colours before the devils made their switch

There aren't that many possibilities if you want to keep it relatively simple though (which is often a good thing to do)
TB is the the most egregious though - just a slightly worse copy of the Leafs

I never want to see them go back to green and red. On a 3rd jersey? Sure fine but full time? Absolutely not from me and I've seen a lot of our fans say similar things.
Why not though? It looks so much better and makes more sense given the Jersey Devil lives in the Pine Barrens and NJ is the Garden State. The switch to black seems so arbitrary 90s black for blacks sake.

I'd love to see Tampa and Toronto play each other both in their home jerseys just to see how confusing it gets for the viewers and the players.

Visually I don't think it looks better. It looks like Xmas garbage holiday decor and I've never been a fan of it. I just like red and black better together and it also fits the Devilish vibes more to me. If we do have to have these colors again I hope they go with the darker green again at least because the original brighter green is so awful.

Plus the team has had all its success in the red and black and mainly just lost a lot in the red and green besides a few good seasons so most of our fan base associates the black and red with winning.

I don't get the love for th QC jerseys. There's nothing on them aside from the logo and stripes that are too low to see in uniform and make it bottom heavy.
Maybe I don't understand the fashion aspect of it? But purely from an 'Art Direction' standpoint they are absolutely iconic and memorable due to their boldness and simplicity.

I don't have to google it to remember exactly what those Jerseys looked like.

Half the jerseys mentioned in this thread? Immediately forgettable to me. Lost in a sea of same-ness.

I think a dark green and red could look good. The old green and reds do look at little too much like Christmas decorations.

Anaheim could've returned to one of the best color schemes, but opted to go with one of the worst schemes and one of the most overused colors in orange.
