Are There Too Many Similar Color Schemes among NHL Teams

Totally agree that red/black and red/blue are WAY overused in the NHL.
Would love to see my Jackets do something different. I understand that they use the red, white and blue because of the OH flag and because of the Union theme, but they need another update. They are not terrible, but just meh.

Part of the reason I wanted Anaheim to pair their original eggplant color with their new orange, would be a completely unique combo in pro sports. Only have seen it on Virgina tech b-ball and it looks fantastic
You're one of the only people I've seen say our orange and maroon looks fantastic, and I appreciate you for that!

(Fun fact we are actually playing an outdoor hockey game against North Carolina tomorrow in Charlotte)

We need a purple team. Since the Ducks won’t do it, Utah needs to.
The Kings should be there, but I understand why they aren't.

Tampa has done it right with those black 3rds though. I hope those are popular enough to become their new homes.
It’s an improvement from their last black jerseys which had grey numbers that were impossible to decipher on TV.

Still kind of bugs me though when teams with no black whatsoever in their color schemes (TB, TML) use black jerseys. Something about it that’s kinda cheesy IMO. Reminds me of some off brand team gear you’d find at Marshall’s.

Sidenote — thought this was an interesting study, in the same vein as the finding that teams who wear red have a competitive advantage over those who don’t:

It might just be me, but I’d like it if the devils changed their color to be more like maroon or burgundy to make it closer to the color of blood.

The Preds are nothing like the Blues and Sabres....The Blues and Sabres are very similar though, yes. The Blues were first though...

Teal & eggplant was fantastic combo, Ducks should go back to that.

League needs more green in general, IMO. North Dakota always looked sharp as the Sioux. Green + White/Black is a nice look on a hockey jersey.

I would like to see the Flames reverse the Red and Yellow on the home jersey .. Yellow Sweaters Pants and Socks with Red piping ... Yellow Helmets Gloves and Skates.. every team in the NHL could come up with their own wacky combination.

I'd like to see a team use the colors of the San Diego Padres for a color scheme..gold/brown/white, maybe a storm cloud gray or orange accent. I think it could work well for the right team. There's only so many colors you can use I suppose. At least the newer teams like Seattle and Vegas did something a little different. I'll hold off on judging Utah until they get a name and logo.

Maybe when Vinik steps down the Lightning will go back to their old scheme. I think they're stuck right now because that blue look is his baby (along with putting BOLTS on the alternates over the years)

the Blues do blue and yellow by far the best, one of the classic primary combos

Sabres is decent but they aren't even committed to it, sometimes they're black and red

mustard yellow isn't in the conversation

Have always loved this colour combo.

Blues should have kept yellow for their numbers on the blue jersey.

Sabres like the Canucks too many different colors. Their blue has been dark like a navy to the much lighter shade it is now. Same goes with their yellow. And they have that red/black combo too.

I'd love to see a bit more colour in the NHL. Too much dark/light (even though I know there are rules), makes some games resemble black and white TV,.

Kings need to give up on wearing black jerseys and permanently switch back to purple.

Purple goes along with the theme of "royalty" a hell of a lot more than black anyways.
Kings just should go to purple and yellow full time to fill that color gap.

The amount of times I see this take from fans of other teams is crazy

I have a theory that non-Kings fans want us to wear purple and gold so bad because they only have to look at it a couple of times a year, when they play us

Me personally, staring at that vibrant color scheme every game and being the knock off Lakers isn't appealing

Plus, I'm biased but I believe this is one of the sharpest kits we've ever had:
