I don't think the Devils have the goaltending or the forward group they need to maintain their hot start. I don't think the Devils are lacking talent in their forward group, but it looks so one-dimensional.

Their defense is insane, though. Just an absolutely terrific group built exactly how you should want to build a D group.

It’s okay. It’ll be way better in three years.

I don't see it that way, it has everything you want. It has puck moving talent on RD with size on LD to complement those guys. Siegenthaler-Hamilton and Graves-Marino is a great setup for their top-4.

Sieg - Hamilton is nice. Graves - Marino is a 2010 style defensive pairing that doesn’t drive offense.

Just regression to the mean, I doubt they make playoffs this year with their goaltending, Hischier is back to the 60-70 point forward many predicted. The future is bright though.

Far from there yet imo. Devils are a good young team (youngest in the league) who are hitting a bad streak here who seems to be becoming mental. In their losses though, they’re not getting caved and walked on, which couldn’t be said in previous years. They’re actually playing good in most of their L’s. This to me is a good sign. They’re basically shooting 5%~ish in their last 6 games and getting around .800% goaltending, which won’t last forever. Hopefully they get out of it. Getting Palat and Bastian back to roll out 4 lines effectively again and add some weight will help a lot. Would also be nice if the goaltending didn’t revert back to last year’s.

They're still a good team. Every team goes through rough stretches. Wouldn't call it a collapse. Just regular ups and downs. Vanacek is also back at his career save % after starting the season red hot.

In other news, the North Pole was a little cold to start the season.

October Weather in North Pole Alaska, United States

"Daily high temperatures decrease by 25°F, from 46°F to 21°F, rarely falling below 7°F or exceeding 57°F.

Daily low temperatures decrease by 23°F, from 30°F to 7°F, rarely falling below -10°F or exceeding 39°F."
Not as bad as I imagined.

I could maybe see their top 6 being a little one dimensional and could see the benefit of adding a power forward type next to Hughes. But their 4th line is a very typical physical energy lone.

Their fans were a little arrogant to start the season. They will likely be fine though and make the playoffs.
yeah we were a rusty out of the gate. kind of understandable considering the 8 year lay off. but promise, when we make the playoffs we improve and be big arrogant.

Surprise - Team that peaked in the first 2 months of the season is cooling off.

I bet people will also be surprised when they have a resurgence near the trade deadline.

Vanecek came back to earth and they sent schmid down despite how well he played to bring back blackwood from injury. They need to just waive blackwood and bring schmid back up. Blackwood been bad for a few years

I agree, I think they'll get over it.

Despite being unable to score and getting poor goaltending, they're still not getting blown out of games. Every loss was pretty competitive, and some, like the Rangers loss, the Devils still controlled play. Every game was close (ignoring EN goals against for obvious reasons).

If anyone besides Jack can start scoring, they'll come out of it.

They are on the downtrend, i said this a while ago.
Injuries will add up, swagger will diminish, players not overachieving anymore

Be prepared for a rough stretch.

They will have a hard time making the playoffs

That was three weeks ago when i posted this.

Here's a funny nugget of entertainment from @WhiskeyYerTheDevils

I will bet you any amount of money they make the playoffs.
