Are Leaf fans prepared to do a proper rebuild?

I don't know how to set up a poll but I am curious. Now that we have seen how horrible Burke's improper shortcut,I dont have a plan works. Are Leaf fans prepared to rebuild properly or are we looking to make the playoffs right away and of course lose? If one looks openly at the rest of the east,we have no chance now or even with Luongo. Will we now repeat the mistakes of the last 46 years or do a proper rebuild which might take 2 years or even less? Thoughts?

I say that we should tank this short season and hope that we get getzlaf & perry. If we don't get them then we should do a full rebuild. But either way we have to tank this short season to get that #1 center we've been looking for. We are not the far off from a good team. We have the prospects, we are just missing them up front. Imagine this line up:

JVR - Getzlaf - Perry
Lupul - Mackinnon - Kessel
Kulemin - Kadri - Frattin
Ross - Mcclemment - Brown

Phaneuf - Reilly
Gardiner - Gunnarsson/Blacker
finn - Percy

Buyout Grabovski and Komisarek. Let Conolly, lombardi, macarthur leave via FA/trade.

All we need is at minimum an average goalie.

If we can't get percy and getzlaf then this is all for not and we should tank the following year to round out our top 6 with mackinnon and whoever gets drafted in 2014.

As ansy as I am to see some meaningful hockey, I would support a real rebuild. (ugh)

I would also be happy with doing it the normal way that NYR and PHI have done. Good draft picks, aggressive in free agency and smart trades. I think we could do either. But if they wanted a great pick this year, I'm on board.

MacKinnon and McDavid would be some nice pieces to build a franchise around.

Please document what you consider to be a "proper" 2 year rebuild; which could have been attempted at any time these last 46 years.

I'm not sure what the point is in creating a new thread; that provides no point of discussion besides: "Would you like to live in an imaginary world; where there is a designed approach that guarantees ultimate success; which could be done at any time for the duration of 2 years? Otherwise; do you like losing?"

The majority of Leafs fans have always been open to a "traditional" rebuild.

Leafs ownership will never allow it.

I think it would take a lot of dismantling to get us that bad this year and next. I think if we are bad, we still won't be worse then 3 or 4 really bad teams. Our D is still good, and our forward core is deep enough to score with regularity.

We would have to start with moving Phaneuf and Kessel, then we would see bottom 2 finishes.

But having said that, this is a good year to be bottom 5 or even 6. Most of them will be top line players.

There is no doubt we have suffered since Sundin left.We need a true number one center and the likes of Kessel goes wasted without one.How else but through the draft do we get one? Trade,we have no bait,except Gardiner.I am tired of these patchwork oranges which clearly don't work.This team is 3 stars from a cup,one we may already have in Gardiner/Reilly. However, we do not have a stud rugged defensive stay at home Dman.Reimer may return to form but he is young.Our best bet has to be high draft picks. Luongo may mean playoffs but after our first round elimination, what then?

I think management has understood you gotta abuse the drafting system to get some where. Well that's what everyone else believes.

The problem of course being Burke refusing to pay market value / give long term contracts to all star players. Which was insane and shortsighted.

Hahah ya... 2 year rebuild or less? That exists? Anyways, I don't think we need a total rebuild at this point in time. This time we need a retool like Burke originally thought. We needed a rebuild when he took over, but we're much better off now.

Are Leaf fans open to tanking or is it playoffs at any cost? I am trying to gauge mood now that Burke's efforts have flopped on his face.Why 2 years or less? We could ride Reimer and if we are out of it by trade deadline trade Kessel,Grabo.,Lupul,Phaneuff,Liles etc. and then draft our number one center.

Nevermind me explaining 46 years to you and no, I don't like losing,but I know you aren't aware,we have been anyway,with nothing to show for it but Reilly.If Burke had just bit the bullet we would have Seguin plus Hamilton or Courtier(sp?) right now and would be only searching for one or two players.

I want to know how Leaf fans feel, are we ready to suck it up for the future,or just be mediocre?

I've said it in other threads and I will say it again, there is no "proper" rebuild.

Edmonton has sucked balls for years now and drafted a bunch of #1s and they still suck. They are absolutely no further ahead of us at this point. Do they have more potential? Yes they do, but is isn't like Burke left us with old players. Our best players are all 30 and under.

we're a #1 G and a #1 C from being a big competitor.

one of those is available right now.

we have two top defenders in Rielly and Phaneuf, and another arguable one in Gardiner. You may need a stay at home d-man but that's quite cheap to get/find.

bottom 6 we're actually solid, you got a PK specialist who can win faceoffs in mcclement, a faceoff specialist steckel, komarov and brown bring the pestiness.

top 6 wise we really only need a #1 C.
