Good young player that is still learning things during his 2nd season. Considering how much of a late bloomer he's been, I'm not worried for him at age 22. In fact, he's one of the only two U24 (and only U23) undrafted Dmen who played games in the NHL this season.

Thank you for proving your bad faith though.
Appreciate the update.

I do not however appreciate the second comment. Feels uncalled for when all I wanted was an update on him since I haven’t seen him play.

You know we can see your previous posts in the thread, right?
And what about it?

Why would my previous posts in this thread matter when I wanted an update on this player? I think bumping this thread is a better alternative than going to the MTL form and getting lambasted, or creating a new thread when this one was created recently.

The vast majority here in Montreal think that Wifi fears no one and we believe that he will soon be in the TOP fighters in the league.
My question is, what do fans of the other teams think? If we compare Xhekaj to other tough guys ; Ryan Reaves, Nicolas Deslauriers, Milan Lucic, Tom Wilson, etcc.
Where do you think WIFI ranks?

He’s got a long way to go. It wasn’t a very long fight but Jeannot handled him convincingly. Granted Jeannot is probably the most technically skilled fighter in the league, but Xhekaj needs to be able to at least hang in there against top competition before people start ranking him among them.

That said I read an interview with him and I respect that he takes the jokes about his name in stride - too many people these days get offended at the drop of a hat so I like that he has a sense of humor about himself. So as much as I hate the Canadiens I can’t dislike Wifi and hope he does well in the league.

Guys lose fights. He over powered Reeves in game one of the season.

I'd actually prefer if he fought less, but he's managing to maintain a pretty good balance. Despite the rawness to his overall game, it's still not commonplace for a player of his size to have the mobility he has. I think a previous post on this page is pretty accurate. He's a 5-6 on a young d-core right now and his ceiling is likely a 4. His game is good enough that he doesn't need to go out of his way looking for chances to police the game. The more time he spends on the ice, and not in the box, the better for him.

the Habs are in something of a rebuild which gives him time to work on his game. He will go as far as his hockey skills take him. The fighting is a nice sideshow for the fans but guys like that come and go. Good players stick around.

Exactly.

I think his game is good enough now to be a bottom pair on a number of teams. He's benefiting from ice time in Montreal that he wouldn't get on a team that relies more heavily on its top 4.

I hope not, I want him to he a Hab for life. Dude is a throwback and grew up a Habs fan, wears the jersey with pride.
We both know that this Habs rebuild is going to take a while, especially given some of the drafting.

You did not want an update on the player though. You wanted validation on your previous takes.

Makes sense; the Lightning have taken a similar stance with Jeannot and want him to focus more on the other things he can do on the ice. I still enjoy watching him fight though - he actually has legitimate technique to go along with power and aggression and it’s fun to watch him intelligently pick people apart with it. But the Bolts certainly didn’t pay all those picks for him to spend a lot of time in the penalty box or out with a broken hand, and at the end of the day they don’t award points for winning fights.

Fights don’t really decide games though. When was the last time anyone beat up Marchand or Wilson or any other guy with a reputation? It’s better to have than not have but it’s more of a secondary thing than it used to be. At some point it will also catch up with him and he will break a hand when the team needs him. It’s important he round out his skills more than it is he fight Lucic or whoever.

Handled him convincingly in a 9 second fight that produced 2 vs 1 punch?
If that was convincing, what Arber did to Jeannot last year as a rookie was total domination.
Barbashev blew him up last night, but what some of the troll takes fail to mention is that he was stuck on the ice at the end of a 2 minute and 30 second shift - where he couldn't get off the ice. He was completely gassed.

I'm saying that this Habs rebuild is not going to be over when he's 28.
So.... six years from now after their roster has undergone multiple trades that haven't happened yet and after adding young players who are, as of today, 14 to 17 years old.

You may want to rethink your prediction.

And how long do you think the rebuild is going to take?
What would you consider being the end-point of a rebuild, a playoff contender? The Habs have a very good group of young defensemen, but their future on offense is totally up in the air with no apparent game-breakers and they don’t have a starting goaltender.

So in another 6 yrs you don't think that it's possible that we will have a starting goaltender or have added to our forward core. Sure bud.
