The first real test will come in the exhibition games. If he looks like he belongs, i bet the renovated outhouse that he makes the big club.

They are not going to bury the guy so he can fight AHL trash.

Its not like we intend to compete for anything but the basememt.

And anyways, there will be injuries throughout the season. And if he's doing well in Laval, and we're losing in Montreal, I'm sure he'll get called up and they can sit someone like Wideman.

I.e. what I'm saying is, his play will dictate how much he plays in Montreal. If he's ready, he'll be playing there, whether from day 1 or sometime not too far into the season.

I would give X the benefit of the doubt to improve rather then playing the few vets.

We got nothing to lose but gain from losing...

We'll see how he looks against NHL competition toward the end of preseason. The beginning of preseason are AHL games with a few NHL vets who are barely trying mixed in with Junior players about to go back to Junior.

Also, if Eddy's back, which youth do you send to Laval: Guhle, Barron, Harris or Xman. Matheson, Edmundson, and Savard ain't sitting, that's for sure

Ax (The Ax?) seems like a pretty suiting nickname, saw it on Twitter, it might have been Grant though, don’t shoot me :)

Idk if you realize that you just made it seem like all hes good for is fighting. Aka a reason not to be in the NHL. I agree I want him to play a couple games in the show, but its because for how tough he is, hes smart, and can skate, and his IQ is one of his biggest assets. (Also another reason he would benefit from the AHL.)
People dont want the young studs they like in the A cause they want to watch them in the NHL. Doesnt mean losing and playing dud minutes is best for his developement. But reducing it to "fighting guys in the A" .. Relax..

Kid's got legit hands. Good poise and instincts. That's not even judging him based on his size and mean streak. If you didn't know anything about him, you'd think he was a first round draft pick ready for the pros. Let's see how he does in preseason games vs. NHL teams, but his progression has been nothing short of spectacular.

When i saw him play in the OHL after the Habs signed him, i knew this guy was the real deal, he was like a general at the blue line.

The type of player that opposing teams hate to plain against whom bitter fans will be calling a "meathead" because of the type of game he plays. The truth is that he can actually play hockey and he is not one of those guys that have no idea what to do when they have the puck on their stick. Great potential and i hope he makes it.

I understand people who really like him and high on him.

Me too i'm high on him, this guy is really solid physical defensive defenseman who can make pass and he have some good offensive skill.

I can't see why he can't become a very good bottom pairing defenseman in NHL, he have all tools to play in NHL and become better than a depth defenseman.

He is going to be a fan favorite.

And hated by the fans of all other teams.

My day dreams consist of Ekblad getting injured again, Florida missing the playoffs. Then Florida win a lottery pick and the draft rank moves up 10 spots and we draft Cam Allen with the pick, This would solidify our RD for a loooooong time.
As bad as it is, you can almost count on Ekblad getting injured. I feel bad for the guy though lol

The AHL is a bit of a zoo that way, though. It's a tough, physical league and some borderline NHL idiots are going to try to make a name for themselves by trying to take on Xhekaj in a cage match ;)

Also, with Xhekaj, if he keeps fighting, as good as his hands actually are, he might get them injured and end up missing some games, even if he does avoid getting too many fists to the head (not much of a defence in his fighting style, just a strong jaw and stronger punches of his own).

I really like Xhekaj for the thundering hits he can lay out (checks, not punches), his strength at moving bodies away from the puck and away from the net, as well as the intimidating factor he radiates.

Can we not name him after one of if the not the worst smelling food on earth. The fruit from that tree is banned from a lot of enclosed public spaces in the phillipines.

That's Durian, no? I mean, those two fruits are alike, but Durian is a family of its own, while Jackfruit is an oversized (...really oversized) tropical fig. Jackfruit is also quite a bit bigger.

You are right I saw the fruit and thought I saw durian. Jack fruit still doesn't exactly have a pleasant smell either though.
