I've found it depends on the location, different franchisees are greedier than others. The Taco Bell down the street from work has the $5 box at $6, the one about 10 minutes away is $5 so I drive there to pick up lunch. Wendy's usually has the 4 for $5 now, but are cheaping out by moving options to the $6 biggie bag

What always kills me is when the app will send me a notification like "free crunchwrap with $15 purchase". Like, if I've already bought $15 worth of Taco Bell, I'd be too full for the crunchwrap. I suppose it's for families or whatever, but when you're just out eating for yourself, the deals aren't what they used to be.

From around 2013 to 2017 or so they used to have their meal deals where you could get a beefy fritos burrito or chicken burrito, small bag of doritos, and medium soda for about $3.50. I would crush those. Or if it was between 2-5 PM you'd get your happy hour dollar drink and then a burrito off the dollar menu. now the deals are gone and the dollar menu items are like $2.50 each. The good old days are gone.
Chikfila is still the best bargain around. Best food too. Five guys is robbery. Panera is grand larceny. Taco Bell, KFC, PopEyes, McD and all the others put you on the bowl and give you cotton mouth.

I make my own Smashburgers now. Can make 4 of them for about 12 bucks....make fries too. I got me, my son and daughter 5 guys the other night.... 2 bacon cheeseburgers, 1 little chesseburger, large fry and medium was 54 bucks

I have long been miffed by the lack of coupons that make sense for a single individual to use. I don't want to buy one get one free! Who wants a reheated fast food meal. Gross.

Ive never been to a Taco Bell.
I ate an unhealthy percentage of my meals there in law school, it was about the only place that fit my budget at the time. I believe I could get 4 tacos for $.89 back in the day. Once I started getting a paycheck, I never went back and probably never will. Bu it served me well as a starving student.

Panera make me angry. I avoid it at all costs. When I used to travel to Atlanta alot, there was a Panera across the street from the office. I'd take an early morning flight, and when I was a couple of stops away on the MARTA I'd order breakfast on the app to pick up on the walk to the office. It was never once ready and correct when I picked it up. And we're talking about a bagel sandwich and an apple.

How do you mess up an apple lol

I've been mad at panera ever since they changed their chicken noodle soup recipe years ago.

I do like their egg souffle and the fuji apple chicken salad

But it is expensive to eat there

Panera has gone way downhill.

2009-2011 when I was in school my apartment was down the street from a strip mall Panera Bread, I'd take my books there and claim a corner booth and study all day. It was practically my comfort place. Back then a fountain drink and a cookie combined were a little under $3, like $2.89 or something like that. And they had the good cookies like Toffee Nut Crunch and their Christmas Crinkle cookies which were the bomb. Now, everything has like tripled. Cookies alone are probably $4 and they're not nearly as good as they used to be with fewer options. And they do have a monthly drink subscription thing that I think would be a good deal if I lived close enough to a Panera to ever use, but a la carte I think a medium iced tea is about $4.50 or so. Just a complete ripoff.

Tomato Soup in a bread bowl is one of the best meals you can get, but even that's gone to like $10.

Broccoli cheddar soup is really good too

Now I'm craving panera no matter how expensive it is :skeptic:

I remember when: A. I could actually finish three double cheeseburgers, and B. I could eat them, fires, and more, and not gain like eight pounds. Getting old sucks.

Just about the only eating out I do nowadays is at Buff's on hockey nights(like tonight, I'll probably go there tomorrow for Leafs-Bolts). Everything is great and reasonable, all things considered, it's a great place to watch the B's, and it is busy busy busy. A one minute walk from my place, I'm very lucky.

I used to love Panera. The pick two combo of baked potato soup and half turkey, cheddar, and apple on honey wheat was unparalleled. They don’t have either of those items anymore.

To me Panera started a rapid decline in ‘18.
Just after it was bought out by a huge German withholding company.

Switched to a lot of stuff frozen in bags. Made institutionally. Too bad. I liked their soups.

That makes sense.

When I was marathon training, I would often drive to Panera and start my longer weekday runs from there. With about 20 mins left I’d order lunch on the app so it was ready for me when I finished. That was in 2017, was still good then.

What passes for "restaurant food" in Arizona is disheartening.
