Anyone notice Martin Necas's start?

3 points so far. Puts him 3rd in league scoring and I think that is 13 games in a row with a point. He is absolutely on fire. Unsustainable but I'm loving it.lol
It’s not unsustainable. Things finally clicked for him but anyone who’s watched him play in the past knows he’s capable of being a top 5 forward in the league like he’s playing right now

Forget the pace he’s on. Regression is coming. (Pretty much) everyone knows it.

However, he’s off to the type of start that 100 points is beginning to look like a legit possibility. For a team that often gets dismissed for a lack of game breaking talent, a Necas breakout would be a game changing development.
Not with the nobodies on his line.

Assuming you’re just a Necas fan due to nationality and not a Canes fan but the context to how that season finished for Staal was a 100 point regular season, 28 point playoffs that ended with a Cup win.
In fairness... I do like the Canes and how they are built (for years now) but yes it's a Czech thing.lol Apologies. Had no idea Staal went onto that great a season!

And he got his 4th point before it was over so he beat Staal's record!lol

Haha, it’s all good over here. Hopefully he continues his hot start compelling you to drift more and more our way as the year goes by.

Pretty crazy that he's doubling up Aho and Svechnikov in points.

He has more ES points than either of them have total points, and he leads the team in PP scoring as well.

Dude is absolutely scorching hot - his 15.5% on ice shooting percentage will obviously regress, but he's playing with some insane confidence right now. If that continues, his oish% number could stay relatively elevated (>10%). He's seeing the ice and using his teammates better than ever, and it seems to have finally unlocked something for him (getting put back on PP1 hasn't hurt either, that never made sense unless they were deliberately trying to keep his production low in a contract year). The puck luck is certainly a factor, but his underlying expected goal numbers are also at career highs.

- 3.19 xGF/60 vs 5.00 GF/60 at 5v5
- 5.00 xGF/60 vs 7.30 GF/60 in all situations.

So he's definitely running hot, but even with average puck luck, he probably would still have 20-21 points, a ~96-101 point pace.

If he keeps that pace for the final 65 games, that'd put him at ~106-110 points. If he cools off a bit to a ppg pace, that puts him at 95 points in 82 games.

So 90-105+ points definitely seems realistic. I'd be surprised if he doesn't break 90 points if he's able to stay healthy. Makes me feel better about this prediction made over the summer:

He's a legitimate 1st line talent, with one of the most dynamic skill sets in the league. He's averaged a 64 point pace the last 2 years playing almost exclusively with ~3rd line centers and mediocre PP deployments. Give him PP1 duties and some legitimate 1st line players to play with, and he's a threat to break 80-90 points.

Someone remind me what the offer was for Pettersson again?

Something like Necas, Kotkaniemi, a 1st rounder and another top prospect (Morrow?)

That would’ve been a huge haul for the Canucks.

Canes are actually lucky that he caved and signed with the Canucks.

This is Necas figuring it out. He's always had the skill and tools to be doing what he's doing but now he's playing smart, utilizing his teammates, and seeing the ice much better.

All this guy wants to do is score. It's what makes him happy. He has an amazing shot, incredible dangles and puck control, and is maybe the fastest skater in the league. That's a recipe for putting up points. He may slow down some but this isn't some fluke hot stretch. This is legit just what Necas is capable of when he puts it all together.
