Anyone else concerned about Tavares?

This. We had great balance with the big 4 paired like this. Chemistry both ways. Keefe though so expect him to run these pairs until the dying seconds of game 7 with us down a goal or two. ;)

If O'Reilly is healthy and can Sherpa Tavares up the playoff mountain, we'll be okay. Otherwise he's just going to be a poor 5 on 5 player and basically shine in a JVR type role on the PP. Make sure he's a net front guy though and don't have him do too much of the puck distribution.

Problem with this is that JT is so goddamn slow that he completely negates any speed his wingers have. You see how it slows Willie's game down considerably...not sure what to do with him 5v5 but yeah he may be due for 3rd line duty

Tavares is ranked 79th in even strength production and has a top 5 cap hit in the league.

That is absolutely concerning. Even more concerning is how the coaching staff completely disregards tavares' putrid 5 on 5 play and coddles him.

Any competent coach would not put his superstars with tavares in teh playoffs and waste their minutes

Bunting-ROR-Marner (put this line against opposition's top line)
Kerfoot-Tavares-Acciari (speed up the wings who can protect Tavares' slow behind)

More and more it seems that any time he gets the puck in the offensive zone he either shoots it or loses it.

I don't really think it matters much which of Marner or Nylander plays on the first or second line, as long as JT is on the third.

The only one who can play with him is Marner, he can slow the game down to Tavares speed. Keefe seem to realy need Tavares on the second line. And realy not need Nylander on the first (right now). Keefe knows a lot i dont , but he is very welcome to share his thoughts.

He's a #1C in 5v5 production this year despite lesser minutes than most... positive expected goal differential... positive goal differential...
You're unnecessarily creating concern, for some reason, as we gear up for the playoffs.

Yeah, the 11mil cap hit is pretty hard to swallow now. A hell of a lot to pay on the cap for a PP guy.
 
I mean if you didn’t think Tavares game would decline at this point in his contract, I’ve got a bridge to sell you.

Much like a lot of other UFA contracts, he was paid a premium as a top line centre at his peak. Providing $11 AAV value over its duration was never going to happen.

Still, he has be a constant PPG producing centre for 5 years now which is good. And he’s having his second best scoring season as a Leaf despite the PP dependency.
