You're really going to put this losing streak on Karmanos? After he agreed to spend almost $20M a year on three top-6 players? It's not his fault that we have 2 injured goalies, our defense is a shambles of injuries and underachievers, and our coaches and players can't seem to get on the same page.

Karmanos is probably the one guy in all this who comes off blameless. There's nothing he could feasibly have done to make this season's team more competitive.

Karmanos' spending more NOW does not make up for his policies (cheap, cheap) for years previously. Yes, we're acquired some good pieces, but we have to have some really good defenseman added, some goalie depth, and a real bruiser (I don't see Westgarth being what they said he would be at all!) I stand by what I said.

So, to be clear, you feel that Karmanos is now doing things differently than he did in the past?

And you are going to stop supporting the team in order to get him to... change that?

I'm sorry, but if you live in North Carolina and you can go see the Hurricanes whenever you damn well please, don't ***** about Karmanos.

Get Jordan Staal and extend him, sign Alex Semin then extend him, draft Skinner, Faulk, etc., fire Mo and actually go outside the organization to get an up and coming coach like Muller... The one big criticism I guess is that JR has neglected the defense too much, but overall I like what has been done here recently. Hell, even the Joe Corvo signing isn't looking that bad.

Oh, and resist the temptation to trade for Erik Cole (so far).

How many goalies do you think an NHL team has? Justin Peters is probably in the top 10% of third string goalies in the league.

Leave it to you to look at the big picture. I zoomed in on $150+ game. Even with my miniplan tickets, parking, and concessions I'm spending at most a third of that.

Same here, and I will admit that I'd be about three times as pissed off right now if I were dropping $150+ a game.

Likewise. I'm planning on picking up a new home jersey and retire my old one, but after that putrid mess of a game, I just didn't have the heart to go down to The Eye and purchase one.

I WILL buy MORE tickets when the team shows me something. Karmanos and Rutherford are responsible for the team SO FAR. I've gone away from the last few games very depressed. Yeah, I do spend a lot of money for LL tickets, and I actually enjoy eating (and drinking ... :naughty: ) there while watching the game. (Well, not so much lately! Lots of heartburn!!!)

sorry but if you check how much the hurricanes' budget has been compared to other teams historically we are definitely not bottom dwellers in that regard. the issue has always been what Rutherford does with the money he gets.

Agreed. I'm in a debate as to who I will get on the jersey (Semin or Faulk), but until they turn it around I will not be spending any money on a new jersey.

Exactly. There is a huge difference between being angry at the hockey ops people (Rutherford, Muller, staff) and being angry at the ownership group which has been spending money left and right to make this team competitive.

The 'Canes missing the playoffs when Karmanos spent to the cap in 09-10 seems to be totally forgotten.

That was pretty much what led to the cap floor spending the next year, because Karmanos wasn't going to find any investors in the team if they lost gobs of money every time they missed the playoffs (which seems to happen quite often here). Hence the "competitive non-playoff team" comments.

Read some of Luke DeCock's columns on Karmanos' bargain basement spending habits, compared to other teams ... they don't agree with the assessments made by some of you. I agree with Luke.

I'm waiting for the Muller-hating to start. Just like Maurice, it will be his fault when they lose, and all the credit will go to the players when they win.

I love this team, but I feel sick when I sit through home games like the last few, and think, "I spent all this money tonight for THIS??? :shakehead " IF you weren't there, supporting them ... don't judge me. It doesn't feel a bit good!

Well considering you hated Muller from the start since he wasn't as funny/cute/whatever as Mo, you do have the early jump on the rest of us. And perhaps you agree with Luke because his viewpoint meets the needs of your agenda?

Same here. I could use a new home jersey to replace my 08-09 Cole jersey...I've been thinking either Tlusty or Faulk, but I'm going to wait until I have extra cash to spend and for if/when they re-sign Tlusty. Oh, and for when they resume playing a respectable brand of hockey.

JR will make some acquisitions here in the next few days. PK has allotted too much money and gained too much financial support for the Canes to miss the Playoffs another consecutive year.

I hate saying it, but I could easily see him trading away our possible top-10 pick in the process.

I hope it pans out. JRs idea of a defense has never sat well with me. What the Canes really need is a safe, reliable shot blocker like Giordano. With Calgary in full on fire sale mode he should be available.

I'm getting a new jersey soon. Of course, it won't be a Canes jersey (Can't stand the piping)...

So yeah...protest! :sarcasm:

That is B.S. I did like Maurice and thought he got blamed for things that weren't his fault, BUT I have never disliked Muller. I think he's a good coach.

Excuse me, but I trust DeCock's grasp of the facts and his opinion more than yours.

I think adding Semin and Jordan this offseason and still being a mediocre franchise is what's really bothering people, but we'd all be lying if we said we haven't felt this way at many points during the last several seasons. We should be used it to by now. But much like getting kicked in the balls or sucker punched in the gut, it never feels good even if you're used to it.

I've been a fan for about 10 years now of this team. I'm tired of excuses from Karmanos & Rutherford. I have tickets for four more games, and have gone to most of the others this years at home. NEXT YEAR, I'm not buying a single ticket until I see some prolonged good stuff from this organization. If you continue to support mediocrity with your wallet, Karmanos will never do anything differently. I have no plans, considering the division we'll be in next year, to go spend $150 + at every game, and see us get consistently BASHED, which WILL happen if things don't drastically change!!!

And that's when Karmanos picks up the team and moves it to Canada. If everyone stopped supporting the team b/c they were mediocre, we won't have a team to complain about.

I've lost a team already, Cleveland Browns, and I was just a young'un back then. It sucked.

Everybody has to do what they're comfortable with. If the team continues to play the way they've been playing recently, I'm not going to spend my money to see it. Canada can have them. I certainly hope it doesn't come to that, because I love nothing more than to see a good hockey game!
