Anton Stralman

Out of 30 Teams why is it the Leafs are the only Team to move a Player who end up finding their game years later?

It's really easy. The system is flawed and that's it. They don't look at advanced stats or anything.

The best people to trade for are...guess who?

Golden Rule of hockey Trades.

ALWAYS TRADE FOR THE BEST PLAYERS ON THE WORST TEAMS.

The golden rule is always right.

We're always in for a quick fix and never looking to wait patiently for the players to develop. Even when the quick fix has yet to show that it actually works and trading our young talent continuously comes back to haunt us. Its written in history that only this can happen to the Leafs.

Franson out, Stralman in? Would be nice. Toronto needs to move salary off the wings and bottom 6 and redistribute it to the defense.

Confirmation bias. You're probably just not paying attention to the other teams. It happens all the time in the NHL.

Some examples:

Montreal gave up Mcdonagh, Philly gave up Patrick Sharp and Justin Williams, Calgary gave up Martin St. Louis, Pittsburg drafted Matt Moulson but he never played a game for them and I could go on and on.

For all the flak our scouts get, our Swedish scouts seem to always do a good job in finding gems, especially with d-men.
 
Stralman or Matt Greene make the most sense to me. IF neither of them, then Boyle. Huge Matt Greene fan, and he is a RHD. I'm a traditional believer in players should play their strong side, especially defensemen.

Pretty sure that that was his point. He was mocking the 'poor me' crowd.

That's far easy to say with how he is today. Would you want to wait for Stralman to be good after 5-6 years ? It took him quite a fair amount of time and there's no guarantee he'd be the way he is with the Leafs had he stayed. But I guess its easier to criticize right?
 
Sign him. Let him do what Gunnar does for Phaneuf on the top pair for Jake on the 2nd.

Gunnar-Phaneuf(or if possible trade Phaneuf)
Gardiner-Stralman
Rielly-Gleason
 
He's lucky if he's a number four. We need to stop giving players contracts hoping they're better then they are.
 
This is a GOLDEN example of why we shouldn't be trading off our young players anymore.

Can the people who rave about trading Kadri and Gardiner **** already now? If Stralman managed to find a solid defensive game there is DEFINITELY hope in Kadri in Gardiner, and they weren't even close to as bad as Stralman either. And that's not even counting their dynamic offensive/possession games either. Different players and different teams blah blah blah I know, but Stralman becoming the player he is today should give management a clear idea of the mistakes previous management mistakes in the past, and the mistakes they're still even making today :shakehead

The same thing happened when we traded Alex Steen too, he went to St. Louis, found his game, and became a top-6 great 2-way player. We've done way too many trades where we've pawned off "players we've given up on" only to see them flourish shortly after. Do some of you people SERIOUSLY don't think that's gonna happen with Kadri if he's traded? Or Gardiner? Those are players with premium skillsets with correctable flaws in their game, and yet so many posters on here would be willing to pawn them off for some 30-40 point scrubs who are "2-way and gritty."

i'm a fan of not trading away players and continuing to develop through the draft no matter how our team is doing for the next 4 years.

if we didn't trade, we could have had stralman, rask, steen, seguin, possibly hamilton and i've said this before.

let's see how gardiner, rielly do, as well as prospects in 3 years.

i think other fans can see that out of list of:

nilsson,

knodel

how at least 2d should make the leafs (within 3 years)

gauthier
devane
broll
ashton
d'amigo
leivo
carrick
holland
herzog

how at least 2 fwds should make the bottom six

brown
johnson
verhaeghe
toninato

how maybe 1 have a possibility of making top six.

if we add a nylander, ehlers, virtanen or ritchie to the mix then maybe we'll have 2 candidates in total making top six.

the only reason i would trade kadri is either to get more picks, or an equal prospect. i hear he has attitude problems but that's the only reason.
 
Guy plays a couple of good playoff games for his third NHL team and we wanna anoint him as a star.

Shawn Thornton, Philippe Paradis, Chris Didomenico, Tellqvist, Maxim Kondatriev, Brendan Bell, Carlo Colaiacovo, Jarkko Immonen, Ian White, Robbie Earl, Justin Pogge, Viktor Stalberg (maybe he doesn't fit), Dale Mitchell, Mikhail Stefanovich, Alyn McCauley are ones just off the top of my head.

Each one of those players could constitute as being traded away too soon in their rocky development. None of those really bit us in the rear end.

Try a couple of good seasons, for periods looking like a better D-man than Marc Staal.

Strålman would be great on our second pairing, but he'll be expensive. With the depth on D that we have coming up, I'd rather not tie him up with a long contract.

Exactly. You can play or you can't play. Doesn't take a million years to figure out which can and can't.

Not even close. He is an average to below average defensemen having a couple of good games.
