Prospect Info: Anton Silayev (LD - #10 Overall - Round 1 - 2024 Draft)

I have to point out the dedication I have to our teams prospects when I realize I’m sitting here drinking coffee and watching highlights in Russian and I look over and my wife is looking at me like I’m crazy (I don’t speak Russian).
You don’t have to be watching Russian highlights for her to look at you that way.

I’ll admit Buium will probably be the best defenseman in that part of the draft, and I still kinda wish we got him, but we have guys like him already. Silayev wasn’t a reach and he has his own set of skills that we don’t have. Plus, the league is trending “big and fast” and he is very much both.
Married man to a married man… couldn’t be more true.
I feel like I do that to my wife more than the other way around. She has the most disturbing TikTok and Instagram reel algorithm.

His overtime goal against the Rags as MSG was a nice moment for his short NHL career. 2 Devils fans on my men's league hockey team were at that game and literally bumped into Liam Neeson in the hallway after the game ended lol. If I remember correctly they said he was pissed haha.

I like Liam. He shows up at fly shows and shops regularly.

Speaking in pure in generalities...

I don't believe a defenseman with Silayev's size and skating ability could ever flop. That combo will always find a spot in an NHL lineup.
Completely agree. This kid is not going to be a bust pick. No way. He has a high floor based on his size and skating ability. His ceiling is sky high. I like what I’ve been hearing from our fellow Devils fans who are so kind in posting progress reports (many thanks to you fine folks who watch Silayev and take the time to educate us!!).

One timer whiff and fall aside, Gelinas was an extremely smooth skater. Not blazing fast, but just smooth. And yeah, he wasn't a monster, but 6'4" isn't small. I think Jim hit the nail on the head. He had no IQ. But that kinda proves my point. You can't just be big and skate well.

I am not comparing Gelinas to Silayev, by the way, who is clearly a massively superior prospect.
