Player Discussion: Anthony Cirelli

Moving the Cirelli talk to the Cirelli thread, obviously he's playing excellent. I don't think anything has really changed with him overall he just has a linemate who he finally clicks with, that's carried over from the end of last season and then some. Add that with getting some quality minutes with Kucherov and his production has skyrocketed.

Again, I don't think he's drastically improved in any one thing it's just more time and space available to him due with the chemistry he's had with Hagel/Kucherov as opposed to playing with Stamkos/Killorn. If there's one player who's drastically improved it's Hagel who keeps getting better and better.

2 questions on Cirelli;
1. Who are his linemates now? I thought that Point was centering Kucherov no?

2. Can Cirelli become a point per game guy eventually?

Thanks!

1. He is pretty much always paired with Hagel on LW, but his RW has gotten a lot of different looks. Coop has been pretty consistently starting Conor Geekie in that spot, but will move people in and out of the line based on what's needed during the game.

2. Probably not, unless we pretty drastically update the 2rw slot. Prior to this season him being a 60 point player didn't seem likely though and he's now on pace for 73 points so I suppose you never know.

Since coming into the league in 2017-18 only 2 players have scored more shorthanded goals than Cirelli

1. Blake Coleman - 17
2. Sebastian Aho - 17
3. Anthony Cirelli - 16
4. Brad Marchand - 14
5. Evander Kane - 13
6. Reilly Smith - 13
7. William Karlsson - 13
8. Adrian Kempe - 13
9. Patrice Bergeron - 12
10. Cam Atkinson - 12
11. Jean-Gabriel Pageau - 12
12. Aleksander Barkov - 12

3 goals, 6 assists in his last 21 games.

I mean, it's kinda right at his career average PPG... but the fact he has tied his career high with 23 games in hand yet hasn't registered a point and is struggling to score... kinda sucks?

I'm on board with first half Cirelli but this version is the same as usual. Streaky, 0.5PPG. Is what it is.

If a guy scores around 0.6 to 0.7 regularly, 0.4 is gonna be pretty common.

The whole team is taking a minute to get back up to speed.

Wasn't Cooper talking about him playing injured just before the break? Wouldn't surprise me if something is/was nagging him.

hasn’t had a point in his last 110 minutes on the ice. over 120 shifts without a point, impressive.
I'm getting really, REALLY burned out on that shit. He is a shutdown center in every sense of the word. I dare you to find better than him. Maybe Barkov? But f*** any noise (in all capital letters) on depending on this guy for a goal when you need it. November was the month of his life

Something needs to give man. We need to just let him shut games down and be happy if he scores at all

I mean... not really. We had a good stretch and he wasn't producing like he was in the first half. He's the lone 2C on this team, 3 goals in 21 games is fine if you're Joe Thornton and had 32 assists along the way or you're Patrice Bergeron. Lol. Thats not great production. And he's had a few moments of hitting the post where games could've tilted. He's definitely not the punching bag he used to be, but no player is exempt from criticism when he's making +6M and he's got 3 goals in 21 games.

3 goals in 21 isn't good, for sure, but he's cold. It's gonna happen sometimes. He was unreasonably hot at the first of the season, then he leveled out, and now he's just gone cold.

Gentlemen (and women, and nonbinary and some species of North American housecats), could we be on the cusp of something special, something so unique it could break the very emotional fabric of this board? We are flirting with the possibility of Cirelli having a thirty goal season. You read that right. It brings a lot of emotions with it - excitement, confusion, outright fear. I get it. I'm unclear on how to handle any of it, myself, but we must let it happen.
