Speculation: Another year of this Bluc **** (The 2024 season thread)

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

I get the love for Lee

But I didn't think there'd be so much hate for Malott

I actually think he's the perfect call up and may surprise some people, never mind just straight up being a good soldier and hungry dude who has earned it.

I don't like that it's vs. Colorado but he's got a rep as a good defensive forward not just a scrapper and he has at least AHL scoring touch. He may also be a little bit of a late bloomer given he graduated into covid and didn't get much of a chance to 'make it' before. I've really liked his game on the Reign. He's a bit of an old 'rookie' but there are probably worse tweeners on the bottom lines of NHL teams.

Yeah. Zero issue with it.

Lee is overmatched physically, Studnicka is a nobody, Fagemo is a bust. Malott can at least play a similar game to Jeannot.

Pretty spot on. Although Studnicka looked really good in camp, still lacks the size of Malott. He's a big dude even without skates and he'll be fine in that role. Blake wanted him as soon as he was available and signed him to a 2 year deal.

Tl;dr Kings planning for preseason next year, with a few neutral sites (Bakersfield, Boise, etc). Dates seem mostly tentative.

Sold a home there once for a friend

The neighbors were begging me to come back and do more

But there was no amount of money in the world that could get me to go back there on purpose

Sorry to any present company that may live in Bako, you're just built different. It's like if they took 1990s Fontana and dropped it in the Midwest 100 miles from anyone.

Merle Haggard would disagree.

However they have some good Basque food places. So they have that going for them.

Hey now. Leave the Midwest out of this. It's March here and we are getting snow on Sunday... It's currently 73 degrees...

I have a question for my streaming planning since FUBO sucks and doesn't have TNT/TBS

Do you guys remember is the first round of the Kings playoffs on FanDuel or does it go to National broadcast?
IIRC is goes to National starting in round 2

I am at the point where despite our record I like the player make-up in the team better then the coaching staff.

Let’s keep smashing square pegs into round holes on special teams. The only thing our PP does is give the opposition goalie a two minute breather as he watches the puck get passed around and dusted off at two different choke points.

Lewis does not belong on NHL ice. If Thomas is not better then him then he better be shown the door as well.

Last night Doughty had one of his worst games by eye tearing. A long while. Couldn’t make a pass, dumb reads, looked like he was trying to hard and not playing comfortable.

Kopitar is my favorite Kibg of all time but directly contributed to two goals being scored.

Lewis looked like he was skating in mud. His speed was his calling card and it is gone. Don’t care what he does in the gym, it’s on the ice that’s needed.

Byfield sat in the press box. Wait, it shows he played…… did he.

So leave on a good note, I guess Kuemper stood on his head as usual, even after his own defense man tried to kill him twice.

Kempe was dreaming of something other than hockey.

Foegle looked great as usual.

Mallott I liked.

Greentree is more skilled than 7/8 of this roster. Can’t wait till the coaching and development staff knocks that garbage out of him. I’m sure they can make them into a good checking line winger.

Sorry, just couldn’t do it. Listened to Hiller talk to Dooley on All the Kings Men. He inspires no confidence in me at all. Seems like a country club coach that doesn’t want to piss in the elders cornflakes.

Let’s get torts in here and give them the Darryl treatment

It seems to me the last two games have proven what we have surmised about this team. They are a good hockey club with excellent goaltending, solid defense and lacking skill up front. They are good enough to beat the teams they should beat on a regular basis, will win an upset now and again but when it comes to playing the elite teams, they are just not there. I suspect they will win a playoff round this year because Edmonton is hurting and not playing their best hockey, but the Kings will be exposed by younger teams with more skill come crunch time. Hope they prove me wrong.

It's fun, but it's the worst place to be....an 8-10 team.

I guess this year I maybe feel better about them being a darkhorse since there are some latent things that could explode, like Kuemper stealing a series or Byfield flipping out and scoring like crazy.

With Lewis in the lineup and on-ice:

26 wins, 26 losses
46.67 CF% 9GF 17GA 34% GF%, 48%xgf%

With Lewis out of the lineup/team with Lewis off-ice:

14 wins, 6 losses
54.45 CF% 133GF, 92GA 59% GF%, 55%xgf%

At some point you stop asking why...like with Jack Johnsons +/- or Copleys inexplicable wins...and just remove the issue. Lewis is unplayable at this point. Play Thomas and Malott over him. Maybe even Lee if you have to go that deep. Put him in a f***ing suit to let him be around the team, like the other unplayable turd, Burroughs.

Feel like Lee should even get a shot over Thomas, whose been completely invisible and lackluster this whole season when he's played. At least Lee has the size, which would make our 4th line tough to play against with Helenius. Definitely in agreement over Lewis though, the team is noticeably weaker with him in the lineup. He always seems to get exposed out there, especially when matched against the opposition's 1st or 2nd lines.

Lewis goes to the right places, does the right things but has lost his speed. At least by the eye test which puts him a fraction behind the play. That’s all the opposition needs now a day. Put a speedy Turcotte in his place and the difference is noticeable.

The Jeannot loss is very noticeable. Even if he is not fighting he brings an aura or a presence. The players around him grow bigger sets. Even 5’10 Turc plays like he is Lappy

Part 4 of peaking in March and looking good for home ice in the first round only to stumble in the last handful of games, lose all the head-to-head matchup with the Oilers, and finish a distant 3rd behind them in the Pacific.

Funny you mention that...Thomas is one of the larger victims of the Trevor Lewis Experience.

Thomas and Lewis together:
39.75% CF%
0 GF, 4 GA = 0 GF%
38.4% xGF%

Thomas without Lewis:
54.91% CF%
4 GF, 4GA = 50% GF%
61.27% xGF%

passes the smell test too.

Replace Lewis with Thomas until Turcotte is back, at least, I'd be thrilled with Malott-Helenius-Thomas at this point and replace with Jeannot and Turcotte when health permits.

I stopped caring about Lewis playing because the truth is they would rather have Dewey and Lewy statues and family Christmas parties than ice the most competitive team possible.
