Only one person is consistently doing offense. It’s much deeper than you want to admit. I don’t care if he’s not playing defense since the entire team is only playing that. That’s why no one takes one way teams seriously. Like Toronto has always been high offense no defense. Kings are a joke offensively because Hiller makes them play like that and people get impressed by the defensive stats when that’s the only thing they do so it’s meaningless
Kings are middle of the pack (17th) in goals for per game (3.00).

Last season, with Fiala near the top in team scoring, the Kings were 16th in goals for per game (3.10).

So, they remain middle of the pack offensively with or without Fiala carrying the offense. And this was with McLellan coaching most of tbe season.

people whining about fiala not being able to fit the kings system. but also upset that kaliyev is gone haha.

Well yeah because if literally ANY king was afforded the same opportunities Fiala was it would be a monumental occasion. He's just taking PLDs spot as "huge investment we need to justify the return on so give him everything he wants and needs and no responsibility or accountability."

It really puts it in perspective what players have leash and who doesn't and yeah that's part of the reason we're so mad about shipping out Kaliyev, not even trying Fagemo, putting in Thomas, etc...instead you're double shifting a guy

Which one is that? Because it isn't Fiala.

He has the same amount of points as Foegele, one more than Brandt Clarke. Despite the cushiest possible deployment, he's 160th in the league in scoring,

It's even worse at even strength. where he's 340th in the league in scoring, same amount of ES points as Cody Ceci, Ryan McDonagh, and Philip Broberg. You might notice those are all defensively deployed Dmen. That's fewer 5v5 points than Mikey Anderson, Gavrikov, Clarke. And even fewer than guys you noticeably bag on nightly, like Byfield and Moore.

I know he's not himself right now and I'm giving him credit for that but this can't be ignored. He's a huge liability for this team in the moment. Maybe last night was the start of something positive, like Byfield a few weeks back. But until last night it appeared to be getting worse rather than better...

Like what are you even basing your defense of him on? There's not one flattering traditional or advanced stat/metric and it all backs up the eye test.

That one person is Kempe. Fiala is definitely not doing enough and not producing enough. Fiala is definitely not himself but my point went to the entire premise is that the entire team sucks besides Kempe for the most part. Kempe has been the consistent bright spot on this team this year.

Kinda goes to my point that whether Hiller or McLellan that the Kings aren’t playing offensive hockey. They should be doing better than they are. They don’t attack nearly as much as they should be and that’s coaching.

or takes an insanely dumb penalty

Or turns the puck over within 5’ of either blue line

Or tries to one-man-army the puck to the middle of the ice, only to force an odd man rush the opposite way after turning it over.

Or when he films tik tok dances in matching PJ’s
Don't have to worry about that right now. My niece is devastated too.

Fiala is like the Dragon Warrior. Harnesses chaos for awesomeness!

I know Fiala has a NMC, but what 3rd line grinder should we trade him for?

Or… instead of wasting money on meaningless corporate PR nonsense they could have just given it to a family that lost everything.

NAH!
I think they’ve raised like half a million dollars though. They’ll probably do a ceremony with it tomorrow night which will raise more. I think they redo the ice on certain road trips anyway. These guys suck at a lot of things but I think they got this one right.

I just don’t see any value in a corporation blowing smoke up everyone’s ass like they’re good guys, but to each their own.

Anschutz is worth over 16 billion, BTW.

They’ve raised millions and gotten other NHL teams in on the act and have a charity game on the way in addition.

I don’t see any reason at all to hate on a center ice logo for gratitude

Edit: 8 million here alone, including 1 million from Anschutz. CAN he do more? Absolutely. I’m not one to defend billionaires but I’m also not thinking he’s deserving so much venom here

1 million from Anshutz is a literal joke. It would be like someone who’s worth 200k giving $12.50. That’s right, twelve dollars and fifty cents. 50 cents more than a year subscription to this site.

Billionaires deserve all the venom they get and more.

i do think it's in kind of poor taste to monetize tragedy in the million ways this has been but i get it, it's the fundraising game. gotta strike when the iron's hot

phil doesn't have to give shit though and quite frankly, the question would never have even been raised had he not given anything so i think "you could give more" is also in pretty poor taste

we don't need to be comparing scars here

I think the question is coming much more to light in wake of the Luigi situation. There is a growing consciousness which incidentally is not unrelated to the TikTok “ban”. Anyhow I won’t go any further with this, it’ll only end poorly. Good job corporate overlords, good job.

That’s kind of my thought

Not oh wow good job let me wash your feet

But they’re at least doing multiple community events including direct assistance not just raw money donating power and recognizing the heroes at center ice is a separate gesture altogether

I know the Kings are aeg and aeg is Phil so I’m not totally disagreeing with bandit or anything I’m just being grateful to the Kings and the association as somewhat separate entities for all their efforts that aren’t just “here’s a bag of money” even if the higher ups can do more (and we could argue all night over what they SHOULD do which is why I’m not going there)

They're doing a lot to help the entire LA community with relief. Food/clothing drive at the training center, charity auction for their road jersey , partnering with all the other teams 50/50 raffles going the aid of those in need. The NHL is also working on a game that all the sales go toward helping those who lost everything. No need to hate on them just because they're showing support for their city by altering the center ice logo for a few games.
