Man, McDavid chucking a blatant elbow in the game against minny tonight, and getting away with it.

I honestly can’t wait to sneak over to the main board to see how the oilers faithful spin that into a “it didn’t even happen, but if it did, it’s actually a good thing”
"It's okay because he gets screwed over by so many missed calls. The league owes him" or sonething like that, I'm sure

Still can't get over the self-own of changing a lineup that was winning...the ripple effects of not scoring have a pretty clear origin.

There's really no reason not to be running Thomas through Lewis' spot and Lee/Helenius thru as well if for no other reason than to keep everyone fresh and honest ESPECIALLY while playing 11/7 in an impacted schedule.

You know what here's a hot take... this is exactly why Kopitar shouldn't be the captain of this team. Grabs McDavid and immediately starts looking around nervously for someone else to do something. Amazing skilled player, shitty captain.
When i rewatched that yesterday I felt the same digust but didnt want to start a separate rant on Kopi. He doesnt have the pack animal instinct at all.. pure pacifist.

He's easily the best player on the Kings and has the respect of the refs, but he just isn't a player a team will rally behind when trying to grind out 16 playoff wins.

I disagree. You are taught not to duck checks - with the caveat to duck if its an incoming headshot. Its not a hard fast rule not to duck. If you watch McDavid he had 3 or 4 hard strides and was lining him up to destroy him into the bench - that was almost a charge level of distance.. thats way more dangerous option to me since he had no leverage to absorbe the check. If it was not near the bench I'd be 100% dont duck.
Dude, you are 100% incorrect.

McDavid isn't lining up Laferriere for a big hit there, he is busting his ass to get to Laferriere before he can get to the redline to force him to either ice the puck at the end of an extended shift or to cough it up under the pressure of a regular check. There was nothing even remotely malicious about that play, the only thing that made it dangerous was Laferriere deciding to duck into it.

That exact same play happens 4 or 5 times every game. No wonder you are so wrong about Lewis, you are clearly missing SO much of what is going on out there.

I don't think it was malicious, unless I missed something Laf did to him, but McDavid definitely took a healthy run at him with no attempt to reach for the puck AND went in a bit high. I'm not shocked Laf tried to duck it since no glass for leverage and probably thought he could even lever McDavid ass over teakettle in the moment too

Edit: went back to make sure I wasn't crazy and yeah, even Sportnet called it as such three times.

It looked malicious. McDavid seemed to be targeting Lafs head... 97 also had quite a bit a head of steam.. maybe not a charge but close. Ive not seen Laf puss out on a check before. He also was up for a fight in his 1st NHL game.. the kid is not soft.

That clip doesn't show the speed burst McDavid used there to travel from a long distance, but you can see how he took care to go an extra stride and get ahead of Laferriere before cutting into him at an angle to force him to give up the puck. He's just trying to get a turnover or an icing call, nothing sinister at all. You see it every night, players showing hit so a puck carrier loses time and space to make a play. Kempe is the best at it on the Kings, with Byfield doing it with more stick play than outright physicality.

The best forechecker I have ever seen on the Kings was Frolov. He was an absolute expert at determining where he wanted the puck carrier to go, taking away his preferred route and angling him towards a pro-Kings lane.

Don't want to open a new thread for this and not sure where to put it but does anyone have an update on Dean Lombardi's book? Will it ever be published? I think last I heard about it he had a completed draft but not sure what's happened since if anything.

We all wish. That's about the last anyone's heard of it I wager, I think it came up at one of the reunions

First time i've seen the McD / Laf hit clip -- I don't see how anyone can watch that and NOT come to the conclusion that McD was going for his head and with an extra surg/effort to boot. There seriously was nothing from the league?!?
