They also just shouldn't tunnel vision on Gavrikov. Again, he's a good player but he's not irreplaceable - Even if LA's left side is a little thin without him.

If he's asking for too much money/term - it's better to let him walk and take a look at some other options.

Here are a few alternative options that may be available on the UFA market:
  • Marcus Pettersson
  • Ivan Provorov
  • Brian Dumoulin
  • Ryan Lindgren (having a rough season this year but could be a decent 2nd pair LD and probably won't be too expensive)
Off-season LD trade targets:
  • Rights to Bowen Byram
  • Hampus Lindholm
  • Adam Pelech
  • Mike Matheson
  • Ryan Graves
  • Jake Middleton
  • Mario Ferraro
And I'm sure there's other options I missed. So it's not like it's Gavrikov or we're going to be forced to ice a left side of Anderson-Edmundson-Moverare... There's a world where they let Gav walk and still go out and add a LHD to help account for Gav walking.

I accounted for that in my post and the idea is that if it's not Gavrikov, you're still paying for his replacement in either salary or assets or both. I'd much rather have Gavy at even 7.5 than Ferraro or Graves at 4.5 or whatever. I love the ideas of Byram and Lindholm and floated them in the Doughty thread but those will cost assets too.

Maybe I should have been more direct about it but Gavrikov's 'slot' is a cost--even if it's letting him go to fill it elsewhere. So why not just pay the guy you know works instead of a mystery box?

I guess in the end it depends on the ask.

Arent they the #1 defensive team in the league right now with Anderson-Edmundson-Moverare on the left? Its not so bad. Basically Doughty comes in for Gavrikov and everything else stays the same.
Hes a big part of the team and it would hurt to lose him. I think they do make him a competitive offer but he chooses to walk.

Fair, but then Edmundson gets hurt and then what?

I don't want to even think about LTIR for Anderson.

You lose either of those guys and suddenly you're on

Moverare-Doughty
Edmundson-Clarke
Englund-Spence

RIP

If they're going to be competitive, you need another guy who can be a top-3 slotted dman in a pinch. Edmundson isn't. I love Jacob but he's not that guy either. And there's NOTHING behind them.

Maybe writing novels about the kings (in websites with no character limits) is what it takes to convince oneself of thier goal of a championship and at least being competitive this season. The "team" doesnt even stick up for one another.

Apparently McDavid injured another one of our guys (thats a guess but dont see where else he would get an UBI)

“They” openly acknowledge the team is in just get in mode and a step behind the true contenders. They just think this is a great thing because if they weren’t doing it then they’d be Buffalo or something.

I think this is the most likely scenario.

and they will have him for the playoffs to give the Pacific wall another scaling attempt.

Moverare is doing well and the coaches like him.

Gav doesn't produce enough offense to merit the numbers being bean bagged.

Love the character and D but it's home down discount or adios hombre.

Just a bit to the north, some prime lots will be available soon for builds soon along with a rail system being built.

I hope elite expires in the next couple season can see it.

Big brother planned it all.

Thats exactly what they are: something.
They dont even stick up for one another and havent for years.
Buffalo and every other hockey team sticks up for one another as teamates. The kings arent teamates; the're not even a team.

true.. the mcdavid hit seemed to get his head against the boards after he ducked.. but #42 got him in a reverse choke hold type of thing could easily strain something there as well

Yeah Kapanen went for the rear naked choke but couldn't execute haha. But then Edmundson plows into both of them and it really could be any of the above, concussion from the hit/ducking the hit, tweak something from the hold/fall.

DD is going to be like an addition on D so the addition they would hope to add is a scoring right shot forward and there are no great options.

Because that was entirely Laferriere's fault for ducking into a hit that wasn't malicious.

Let's not turn into Oiler fans here.

Biz and the guys on the TNT panel saying the Kings will beat the Oilers in the playoffs. Said Byfield will be the key along with Foegele and Jeannot cause McDavid will be matched up with that line.
They like Byfields defensive abilities.
I think they can do it this year also.

I just heard that too. Maybe they're assuming the Kings wont take any penalties?
