Podcasts are the new media. There are podcasts that do a much better job or reporting now than the mainstream media. Yes, some are awesome some are downright awful. To quote a great philosopher:

Oh, I’m well aware that it’s not a good look.

It’s just hard to take any sort of media seriously when the qualifications are “owns microphone”

Maybe I’ll get over it someday. Maybe I’ll finally succumb to my cantankerous opinions. Who knows?

This is a legitimate issue.

I used to try and listen to every "reputable" Kings fan podcast there was just to try and stay on top of what everybody was saying and what the general consensus was but eventually I had to cut way back because the reality is that podcasting has replaced blogging because it's a lot easier to do (which is I why I got into it in the first place full disclosure) and easier to avoid criticism because there's no comment section for people to tell you that you stink.

You certainly aren't completely wrong, there are some pretty horrid ones out there. (Bannerman comes to mind when we are talking about the Kings)

I love podcasts too, and I definitely listen to them way more than the mainstream media, but I do think people tend to overstate the importance of the opinion of a podcast host (as we see here with Axl). To me the opinions of John Hoven, Dennis Bernstein and Jesse Cohen carry no more validity and their arguments no more cogent than many members here that I have enjoyed talking hockey with for two decades.

Why should what Jesse Cohen or John Hoven says carry more weight than what RJ or BigKing says? Maybe Axl can answer.

This is the whole "Fantasy Football Expert" thing, just because somebody like Matthew Berry was first to the game and able to monetize it and grow his own brand and following doesn't mean his opinions are any more important or likely to be correct than your 11 college buddies in your FF whatsapp chat.

As far as Fiala and PLD, bad moves that were made because of a bad bigger decision. Had Fiala been a consistent point-per-game guy and PLD been a 70 point center the Kings may have been able to make it to a conference final spot one of these years. The Kings weren't winning a SC with what they had at C, and since Blake failed to draft and develop any of the guys he used massive draft capital on into even a 2C, and his refusal to gamble on Eichel made it so he had to go outside the organization for that C and for more scoring.

Most teams aren't trading scorers that compete, play defense and are good in the room, that is why the ones that do hit the market either have red flags to their game/attitude (Fiala/PLD) or just don't want to be with their current team (Eichel, Tkachuk).

Uhh wow dude what the f***? You're just gonna talk shit about a Kings player like that? No true Kings fan would ever say anything bad ever about any player, coach, or employee of the team ever, under any circumstances, no matter what. See ya, fake fan
It's refreshing when a continually negative poster says something positive and vice versa.

Your comment and the circle jerk of emoji's lets me know that all negative regulars are really bummed that they look like dipshits right now for over criticizing a

team that has performed pretty well.

You guys were wrong and when you post the wrong views continually you are exposed as someone that doesn't understand the nuances of NHL hockey team performance.

Stop being mad at me and look at your own worn out negative viewpoints.

Stop it with the loser mentality.
@All The Kings Men called the majority of you out in his latest podcast. Well said, Jesse...well said.

Everyone is, even the players have heard about the cry babys here.

Collectively they have never looked like a bigger lump of doo Doo.
Over the past three playoffs, here are points for guys still on the team:

Kempe: 19 points
Kopitar: 13 points
Danault: 11 points
Fiala: 8 points (2 series)
Byfield: 8 points (2.5 series)
Moore: 8 points
Laferriere: 2 points (1 series)
Lewis: 0 points (1 series)

Buy a calendar it's January and the playoffs are three months away.

Loser attitude!

Can you give me a one sentence summary, thanks?

I actually wasn't posting that as a criticism. I didn't even provide an opinion, I just posted facts, and you chose to take it as me criticizing the team. You also see what you want to see, which is that everyone except you hates the Kings and doesn't want the team to succeed.

To me, this shows that Kempe is the best player on the team and has been for several years now, Kopitar is still miraculously chugging along as the ever-underrated 1C, and while Danault had a rough playoffs last year, his first two rounds against the Oilers were actually pretty good.

For us to be successful in the playoffs this season, we're going to need our top players to continue being our top players (Kempe, Kopitar, Danault, Fiala) and we're going to need our younger (although they're not that young anymore) guys to step up (Byfield, Turcotte, Laferriere, Clarke). Seeing how the team plays once Doughty is back is going to be telling as well. Will it be like a huge trade deadline acquisition, boosting the team's play and morale, or will there be some kind of Patrick Ewing effect? When Doughty is back, will other players who have stepped up to fill in his (massive) shoes take a step back, adversely impacting the team?

And to add an extra positive note just for you @Surf Nutz, I'm really impressed with this team's defense this year. We're the only team with fewer than 100 goals allowed on the season (99), and while we are tied for 24th in goals scored, we're 8th in goal differential on the season. Unsurprisingly, we're tied with Oilers in goal differential: they've scored 18 more goals than we have, but we've allowed 18 fewer goals than they have.

Because Jesse and John have real jobs within the industry and RJ/BK work at Costco and Weinershnitzel?
Pretty sure I could hire the zit faced kid serving me 1.50 glizzys from my local Costco, and even he could figure out a way to lose to the oilers 3 years in a row, whilst capping off a decade without a playoff series win.

That's more like it.

Whenever I nail you guys you resort to the everyone arguments.

I never said I am the only one who doesn't hate the Kings.

Stop trying to put words I never said in my mouth.

It's complete bullshit.

Nail me down if you can but don't make shit up.

Many people from the team itself on down are sick of the bullshit around here and when all you can do is skip ahead to the playoffs 3 months ahead of time, you
are just being lame, unless you add the context you did in your second post.

Come on you really think anyone in the organization reads here and gives a damn about whats said on hfboards? I doubt that.
If they do Im sure they laugh off the overblown criticism but they know there is truth to some of it and they take it to heart to improve.
Some of the broadcast crew over the years echo the things we say on here anyway. Stoll has gone off a couple times and Fox just says it in a nicer way. Even recently hes been frustrated with Fiala during games.

No but word filters everywhere about the crowd here of constraint complainers and their loser reputation travels far and wide.

Other than that you didn't tell me anything I didn't already know.

Circle the wagons, the wagons full of manure!

Yah…”quit yer bitching, this team is good!”

Something like that.
Ya I got to it.

As usual Jesse is diplomatic.

He basically said while looking at the Kings performance, "what are these guys talking about"?

Looks like Moore and Fiala are alternating with Danault and Laffy

Obviously you're encouraged to think for yourself and to put as much weight on things that you like, but Cohen is a Kings employee and Hoven connects with a lot of people around hockey, not just the Kings.

Their opinions and feelings, while independent, also have more immediate sources of information.

Obviously they don't hear all, and they're prone to bias just like everyone else. But I do think that generally, their overall opinions on what the Kings are planning or what the pulse of the team is should carry some additional weight.

I'm definitely not saying they're the arbiters of truth, and I disagree with them quite a bit too. But I do trust their statement of general affairs internally more so than other posters here (or even myself).

@Herby isn't claiming that @Raccoon Jesus and others have any insider information (although I've met plenty of players and personnel over the years), but he's no worse than Hoven at watching hockey games and making observations about the team. If I put out a podcast tomorrow, would you suddenly think my opinions more valid?

@Herby, @Raccoon Jesus you guys wanna start a podcast?
