I know this will be an "overreaction" but we need to start a petition to get management fired. Start bring signs to games to hold outside or behind the camera to get these idiots fired.

They amount of dumb decisions these guys make is getting ridiculous. This franchise is going to be in another rebuild within the next 5 years.

I'd like to see Caleb Jones recalled if Edmundson is out.

Man the most puzzling thing to me about this org in the wake of Arty is how allergic they are to 'powerplay' style talent yet have ZERO PROBLEM giving liability Kevin Fiala carte blanche

I mean we've purged Vilardi, Kaliyev, Durzi, and more because they didn't fit the organizations 'on rails' two way hockey philosophy (drafting guys with that profile is another issue for another day) after mothballing them and motherf***ing some of them publicly yet you have our golden retriever pissing all over the ice in all situations and scoring less than Gabe. I don't understand other than the sunk cost fallacy, which Blake has been remarkably good at avoiding so I don't think it's that.
Its simple. It has little to do with his on-ice ability.

Kaliyev quit on the Kings. He quit on his teammates last year. The coach and GM told us. He did nothing to help the team, and that doesn't just mean scoring goals.

There is more to hockey than numbers, and there has been a lot of speculation about Kaliyev since his draft year. He doesn't earn the benefit of doubts. We will likely never know why he struggles to adapt, but we know that he does. That is apparently more than enough to decide it's no longer worth waiting.

Technically, given that according to Blake most of his prospects suck, and that he kinda is stating that the draft is overrated in general

Shouldn't he, at the very least, fire his entire scouting team?

Technically speaking.
Exactly. Development team too. More so them. It's on the GM to know his prospects. Somewhere along the line, they failed to realize what a complete Gem they had in Faber and instead traded other wasted draft picks. Meanwhile also keeping AK34 for so long and eventually letting his league value go to zero. If you see he doesn't fit the Kings style & culture, then trade him away ASAP. Better yet, identify that beforehand.

JT Miller to the Kings for Kevin Fiala and a 2026 1st round pick. Who says no?
Fiala

I'd say it's more likely Kaliyev clears than gets claimed.

Since he was waiver eligible, nobody would want to trade for him in the offseason. They could sign FAs to take a spot in training camp, meaning they'd waive him and possibly lost him for nothing. So, the lack of success trading at the draft isn't much of an indicator.

However, there's apparently no market for Kaliyev where even a team wants to trade a seventh round pick to ensure they get him. Maybe a team tried to get Blake to take on a bad contract, but I don't think he has negative value.

Anyway, if he clears, maybe this will be a wakeup call for him.

Wrong! Again!

What are you basing this on???

"The coach and GM told us" - do you have direct quotes/links?

I know they said some ultra-vague, media-friendly sh*t like "Kaliyev has to find a way to help himself and help this team win" but that could easily just be Kings jargon for "he's not playing our insanely boring defensive trap style to perfection, so we don't want to play him".

Struggling to play a particular system/style of hockey to perfection doesn't equate to quitting on the team.

If you have any legitimate evidence that Kaliyev quit on the Kings, I'd love to see it.. Because all that I've seen suggests if anything the Kings quit on Kaliyev rather than the other way around.

Did he struggle at times last season? Sure. Was he lacking confidence at times? Definitely. Was he a perfect fit for the Kings system? Of course not. But did he give up on the team?? Or did the team give up on him and stop giving him opportunities?

There was no reason to lose him to waivers when you have Helenius waiver exempt and the scrub D HIller likes to toy around with

The reason to lose him on waivers is you have made the determination a team taking him is doing you a favor.

Calling Hiller who had input on dumping Kaliyev for sure, a scrub is just plain desperation.

The Kings suck and when they don't, they are going to lose to Edmo in the playoffs anyway.

Reverse Stolkholm Syndrome in full effect!
Maybe there is a reason why the Kings tend to draft the same type of safe, grit type players like JAD, Turc, Hughes, Laf, etc. -- rather than elite shooters, speed demons, skilled, etc.

They just do not know how to develop those guys. They want guys a certain way. They want the solid defensive guys. Some like Laf, Turc, QB keep developing and become impact guys. Some like JAD, Hughes, etc. do not at all and simply disappear.

It seems whenever they go outside those safe parameters, it simply does not work for said player.

I would group JAD, Hughes in one group as specified.

All the rest were seen as potential impact players and they are right there!

This part is to some other posters:

Ya I fricken said RIGHT THERE!

THEY ARE RIGHT THERE

RIGHT THERE!

RIGHT THERE!

RIGHT THERE!

EAT IT UP!

Oh no, how will we beat EDM now?

:eek3:

Yup Vilardi but as Meatloaf sang, "2 out of 3 ain't bad."

So save Fiala some minutes for PKing?

Fagemo's back with the Kings though.

But those feel like fumbles for certain.

Turcotte, Spence, and Lee still give this arguably a good draft.
True.. but thats a lot of whiffs... it happens. I like Turc but his ceiling is middle 6 and not sure which part of the middle.. thats a bit of a miss too. He's a guy you can get behind, plays an honest game so Im fine w the pick as long as he stays healthy (knock on wood)

I'll be interested in seeing how the Rangers utilize Kaliyev, given what transpired there with Kakko.

If he's not put in a role to produce, then Kaliyev is destined to be the next Nikita Scherbak.
The only good thing that Rangers got him from AK perspective is he grew up around there.. otherwise Id pick them as the last team Id want him to play on.. their history with prospects is worse than LAK

Dude go back to the kiddy pool, the adults are talking here

Your not the lifeguard, just because you parade around in speedo's!

Turc is thriving on the top line with 2 legends, therefore his ceiling is top line player already.

I like the adage of "if you get 2-3 NHL players in a draft, you had a good draft. I know there are variables and nuances, but ultimately, these still come across as "good drafts" to me. Even first overall picks bust, so nothing is guaranteed.

Turcotte has health issues but he's working in the top-6. Lee works as a bottom-six grinder. Spence is solid as a bottom-4 defenseman. No rebuild should be done on one or two drafts alone, anyway.

Losing Kaliyev sucks. I liked him. But we know he wasn't going to get more opportunity here, and the Kings couldn't get anything for him at the draft. The writing was on the wall he wouldn't be staying in LA for long. It was all but guaranteed to be in Ontario or another NHL team.

I'd give him a month in NY before we lose our shit about losing Kaliyev......remember this is the same fan group that absolutely lost their shit about losing Fagemo to NSH.....and a month later, he was back in LA.....not saying Kaliyev is going to be come back, but it clearly didn't work out in NSH either.
