Speculation: Another year of this Bluc **** (The 2024-25 season thread)

I'd say it's more likely Kaliyev clears than gets claimed.

Since he was waiver eligible, nobody would want to trade for him in the offseason. They could sign FAs to take a spot in training camp, meaning they'd waive him and possibly lost him for nothing. So, the lack of success trading at the draft isn't much of an indicator.

However, there's apparently no market for Kaliyev where even a team wants to trade a seventh round pick to ensure they get him. Maybe a team tried to get Blake to take on a bad contract, but I don't think he has negative value.

Anyway, if he clears, maybe this will be a wakeup call for him.

Maybe there is a reason why the Kings tend to draft the same type of safe, grit type players like JAD, Turc, Hughes, Laf, etc. -- rather than elite shooters, speed demons, skilled, etc.

They just do not know how to develop those guys. They want guys a certain way. They want the solid defensive guys. Some like Laf, Turc, QB keep developing and become impact guys. Some like JAD, Hughes, etc. do not at all and simply disappear.

It seems whenever they go outside those safe parameters, it simply does not work for said player.

Rangers were 5th in line.

So Chicago, SJ, Buffalo and Nashville all passed on him.

Rangers are currently icing a 2nd line of Brodzinski - Zibanejad - Smith (according to daily faceoff)...

Seems like a no brainer to try Kaliyev for a few games in Brodsinski's spot to see if there's anything there - Hopefully Arty gets an opportunity and takes advantage of it. Even with Zibanejad's game falling off a cliff, that would be a great opportunity for Kaliyev.

Very frustrating to lose Arty for nothing.

Get used to me.

JT Miller to the Kings for Kevin Fiala and a 2026 1st round pick. Who says no?
I'd be real careful adding a hothead to the team like Miller. He has been pretty well known for being emotional/hotheaded. Don't need any disruptions to team chemistry right now. I keep hoping that we see a turnaround from Fiala. He's so dynamic but it's hard to ignore him being the lowest +/- on the team right now.

It is definitely frustrating. It helps that Turcotte, Foegele and others have really stepped up. We could really use a sniper type presense on the Power Play.

Completely agree with all of the above.

I'd be nervous about adding Miller too but he's a game breaking superstar when he's on his game and he'd be a pretty incredible add for the Kings.

I could see it going either way - so it's a bit risky. Maybe Miller's mean streak fits perfectly with the Kings and helps them get over the hump in the playoffs. Or maybe Miller ends up being too much of a hot head and it disrupts team chemistry significantly.

It's a very enticing idea but very low likelihood it would ever actually happen. Just trying to think of good trade targets for the Kings.

Man the most puzzling thing to me about this org in the wake of Arty is how allergic they are to 'powerplay' style talent yet have ZERO PROBLEM giving liability Kevin Fiala carte blanche

I mean we've purged Vilardi, Kaliyev, Durzi, and more because they didn't fit the organizations 'on rails' two way hockey philosophy (drafting guys with that profile is another issue for another day) after mothballing them and motherf***ing some of them publicly yet you have our golden retriever pissing all over the ice in all situations and scoring less than Gabe. I don't understand other than the sunk cost fallacy, which Blake has been remarkably good at avoiding so I don't think it's that.
