The book on Fiala's regular season is that he's always slow to start but once he gets going he doesn't slump. I'm not worried about him - he'll get it figured out any day now.

Eric Stephens mentions this on the athletic, he mentioned it would be
Farabee
4
2025 1st
Alex Turcotte
Holy yikes please god no.

Turcotte is probably a better player than Farabee right now and that's with all the injuries & developmental setbacks.

Also huge HELL NO to paying a 1st round pick for a guy with a career high of 50 points.

That better just be a phony rumor.

Good f***ing God, no more adding 1st or 2nd rounders in a trade to overpay. If Blake hasn't learned his lesson from those past mistakes he shouldn't be making any trades. If Barzal can be had for a reasonable price I'd feel out what the Isles would want. Regardless, any upcoming trade has to be for a center to replace Kopitar, a quality C too. You can always temporarily move them to wing if C is overloaded (which we're not).

Barzal would be a great King. I think he could be the guy that would gel with Fiala here finally.
The bright side about the first round picks they traded is the range they were drafting in hasnt really shown much at the NHL level. Yannetti had mentioned they see certain draft years development will be hurt most by covid and I think it could have been 2022-23 and why they were ok with trading picks that got guys like Ohgren and Bonk.
Now if you wanna say they should have kept Faber and Vilardi and still been a lottery team to get Bedard there is an argument there.

i think regardless of how you feel about the players picked in those spots there is a large opportunity cost as well in terms of assets, cap space, and roster slots at the very least as well as getting older and not better vs. getting younger

Eric Stephens writes a Kings article once a month if the Athletic subscribers are lucky - I'd bet @Sol has a better inside track on the Kings wheeling and dealing than Eric.

It was an idea. I didn't say it was a good idea.

Hard to see a good trade match. Need an actual upgrade over someone in the Kings' top 9, preferably a power play sniper. Would have to fit in under the cap.

Joel Farabee would just be another middle six guy on a team swimming with middle six guys. Offensively he would be an upgrade over Turcotte on the 1st line, but not enough to warrant trading yet another 1st rounder, and paying him over $4m more than the Kings are paying Turcotte means that he is probably a lesser value in a cap world. And he has very minimal playoff experience as he's spent his entire career on awful Flyers teams.

The Kings are better off just standing pat, but the problem continues to be that you have a management team that knows their jobs are likely on the line and aren't looking at draft picks as anything more than tools to try and win a playoff round this year and try and save their jobs.

You read my mind my friend, I was going to say

"In baseball terms the Kings have a lineup full of #6 hitters"
I just watched Christmas Story again…

Old Man Parker: "Well, for Christ's sake, the Sox traded Bullfrog... the only player they've got, for Shottenhoffer. "Four Eyes" Shottenhoffer, a utility infielder. Got a whole goddamned team of utility infielders."

We don’t even get a leg lamp out of it.

The Golden Knights were kinda like this when they debuted. A team full of 2nd liners.

True,

But they also pivoted quickly away from that when they were presented with the opportunity to bring in actual difference making players. But the 2018 Knights are probably one of the teams that Blake and the Chevy Boys are hoping to be like.

Another big difference though, they also had MAF who was one of the best goaltenders in the NHL that season.

As fun as it is to be involved in trade rumors and think about adding a good player to this group.... It probably makes the most sense to just stand pat right now and re-evaluate the team's needs come February 2025.

Kings are being linked to the Flyers but PHI has already said Konecny is off the table. So they're basically looking at Farabee, Poehling, Frost, and Laughton. Don't get me wrong there are some solid players in that group but do the Kings really need another middle 6 forward?? People have mentioned a potential Byfield for Cozens swap... How much does that really help the team short term (especially with how Cozens has been playing this year)?

Kings best bet is to keep rolling with what they have for the time being.

Kaliyev might be ready to see a couple games soon. Doughty should be back within the next month or so. Turcotte continues to look great and should probably get an extended look with Kopitar and Kempe especially after his performance Saturday vs the Rangers. Byfield hopefully starts to get going. Fiala looking much better. Moore and Danault playing better as of late.

PP is the biggest issue right now but that honestly seems like more of an internal problem - Not something a trade is going to magically fix. Let's keep it rolling with this current squad and see if these guys can keep playing with the consistency they've found over the last couple weeks.

If that really is the 'problem', then the root of the problem is ownership for keeping those guys on.

Cap: Moore is struggling big time in neutral zone
Gavrikov (if not signed to reasonable contract when 8 returns)

Cozens 23, more of a wing than center. Like Kempe from a few years ago, straight ahead & shoot puck. Limited creativity.

Konecny 27, right, gritty, Philly

Ricard Rakell 31, Pens, meh

Laine MTL (probably not available)

Debriscat (Det) Available???

Ott, Giroux, Batherson, Pinto, not feeling it.

NYI, Barzal, seems unlikely

NYR, Panarin

Forsberg, Stamkos Nash

Toffoli, SJ

Josh Anderson, not much worse numbers than Moore. More physical.

Looking pretty bleak.
