Matthews needs to pick it up. Holy f***. The money and becoming the captain.

I don't pick on him usually but f*** this. Be better.
I agree. He's not pulled his weight so far. We're used to depending on him, and rightfully so, with the money he makes.

Matthews is 75th in NHL scoring going into today's action. He has no business being Top 50 among NHLers this season. Guy's entire game has fallen apart virtually overnight at goal 69 last year. What happened to this guy?
Fumbling, bumbling, Phaneufing all his shots, looks exhausted, he's a mess.

Our D and goaltending are pretty darn good, it’s just too much of a Leafs classic that this is when the wheels fall of our big guns core. They’re playing like they see the writing on the wall: the experiment is over and they’re just waiting for the hammer to fall. Matthews’ tenure as captain thus far is the wet fart that the rest of this core’s moments of possible glory have led to. What a dud, I hope he watches the Miracle movie 20 times and gives his balls a tug.

We got a point on a back to back, against a rested team that had won 6 of 7 heading into tonights game.

Stolarz again with a very strong performance.

We now have a four game homestand against three teams in DET, MON, OTT that most likely wont make the playoffs, so we need to win these games.

We just aren't very good. Is what it is. We pretty obviously missed our contention window at this point.
Back to back games against a 7-1 team, but regardless. A 2-1 loss in OT isn't the end of the world.

Leafs management/ownership missed their opportunity to trade, at a minimum Marner before his NMC kicked in. Maybe they wanted to appease Matthews so they could get him re-signed so they kept his winger friend, I don't know. The Clubhouse was kept intact.

Domi played great with Matthews last year so Matthews may find that he will do better with a different winger at a lower price but the lineup will be stronger up and down which would benefit him in matchups. Any good passer in the league will do, you don't need an $11M man for that.

The signing of Reilly made no sense when for a mill or two more they could have had Petrioangelo without losing any assets. You dont get UFA opportunities like that very often. Not that Reilly has been the problem this year, I'm just speaking of Cap management to build a Cup winner.

There is some irony in this in that if Berube might have them playing playoff hockey all season round which can't hurt when the big games arrive (if they do). The problem is this core of Leafs is not very good at playoff hockey. Maybe this will change...

As I've said for many years, this is a management/ownership issue. It won't be cleared up until at least this offseason, but we all know they will offer Marner a contract. When they do, the Cup drought will continue for how ever many years. The longest Finals drought in major sports history, let alone a championship.

Baffling that these guys should be exhausted. 20 minutes of NHL hockey is hard work I’m sure, but do they not train cardio??? Matthew’s has looked gassed all year, it’s like he didn’t have a serious offseason.

Not really impressed with Berube or the coaching staff at all. The team has problems breaking out and getting set up in the offensive zone and the special teams have been atrocious outside of tonight. He is also playing the top six WAY too much at the wrong times. Shortening the bench on a back to back tonight is pretty questionable.

If Matthews could wake up any day now that would be great. He has not played like a franchise player at all this season.

This defence is not good. As a unit they are absolutely brutal with the puck and are far too slow.
The leafs D are faster than Bobby Orr and Paul Coffey combined. You have no idea what you’re talking about.

Benoit is the ultimate speedster. Never loses a foot race.

It doesn't make sense why the Leafs aren't doing much better though. They finally go out and get Stolarz who's playing very well so far and is giving your team a chance to win almost every night and now that goaltending seems to be stabilized and the defense is doing fairly good as well, now offense has become the issue when it should be the strongest part of the team.

Time to move away from players like Marner, Tavares and Rielly and use that money to get some good players who can score and bang and provide a new look to the team because the current mix ain't it. I can't imagine this current group doing much in the playoffs even if they get there unless Stolarz and Woll play insane out of their minds and drag the rest of the team to success.
