GDT: Another game vs the Preds

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

Monty calling out the refs in the post-game, as he should.

The sheer difference between the Chicago and Nashville games was stunning. Honestly, there should've been a tripping call on Neighbours for the Martinez injury; to me, it looked like a somewhat-slewfoot that he got away with. They let the players play for the most part. Then you had this game.

I just want consistency, honesty, and transparency from my officials in all sports. That's all the fans want. We're not mad at officials; we're mad that there's no real way to criticize them without the sport's Cosa Nostra coming down on our heads. What's so f***ing hard about talking about an honest explanation on why you made those calls?

Transparency would be great. Friedman talked a bit about this on the pod posted this morning, how it'd be nice to get insight into how officials (and sometimes with their consultation with Toronto) arrive to certain conclusions. They were specifically talking about the hit on Hertl last night being downgraded from a major, but the same concept all around. I like how in the EPL they release the audio from VAR decisions. It takes a few weeks but that's the kind of transparency we need. We'll never get to the level of making the refs available to reporters after the game.

Could use him for round 1
Would rather have ROR than Sunny on Line 3, in fact, I'll go as far as saying it would've been a perfect trade deadline acquisition for this team...if not for the contract. Bet it would've happened if O'Reilly didn't have another season on his contract.

This was one of the most frustrating games of the season to watch. I was livid watching it. Shame on the officials for the way this game turned out. Marchessault should have been kicked out of the game for that hit on Broberg after the whistle. That's an egregious non-call. The fact that WE ended up on the PK after his stick work with Toro and then his hit on Broberg was also inexcusable. I can understand possibly giving Toro a boarding call on the hit, but frankly that looked like a dude who's 5'10 getting dumpstered by a guy who's 6'6. At the very worst it should have been 2 to Toro for Boarding, 2 to Marchy for Slashing (Maybe even more, going above your shoulder on a windup for a 2hnder should carry a stricter penalty), 2 to Binner for Tripping, and then 5 and a game for unsportsmanlike conduct/roughing to Marchy.

Then you have the called off goal. That was also 100% stupid. The guy didn't even have his glove on the puck before the ref blew the whistle. Absolute incompetence. Then of course you have the flash point where Blankenburg almost takes out Thomas' knee. The hit wasn't actually as bad as it looked in real time, I don't think Blankenburg did anything overtly malicious, he actually stayed pretty well tucked. But at that point, with the way the officals had let so much go, and in the moment, I totally understand and LOUDLY f***ING APPLAUD Bolduc for what he did. That's your best player getting what live looks like a knee on knee in a game that Nashville has already gooned up multiple times. You throw down and answer questions later in that situation. As the old joke goes - A GOOD friend will bail you out of jail. But a BEST friend will be sitting in the cell next to you going, hey I think we may have f***ed up. 100% kudos to Bolduc, and I bet every f***ing guy in the room was coming over to him with a beer that night. Bolduc getting a major was dumb, but at that point the refs had totally lost control and knew it. I think it was probably best to get Bolduc out of there so there was no potential retaliation. Shouldn't have given the Preds a PP for it, but whatever, those two refs should be on administrative leave after that performance.

Ok, that all said, I did want to take a minute to give my inital view on Dvo. My bottom line is that he is very much not ready. His skating is borderline terrible. His first three steps are extremely slow, and he has a really choppy/ineffiecent stride. There was a moment where he was carrying the puck up the ice on a 2 on 2 and his legs just looked goofy in full gallop. He can get up to a decent top speed, but it's not fast enough overall. He also turns fairly slowly and without much power. He just looks like a noodle too. The kid needs to get on a protein/calorie heavy diet ASAP and hit the weight room big time if we are expecting him to become a full time player next year.

Now, that all said, the kid is 19 and we all knew he was going to take longer as he was one of the youngest players in his draft class. His IQ is there. His puck skills seeemed solid. We didn't really get to see his shot, which I've heard is probably his best asset. If he can eventually get up to a Schenn level of skating the kid is going to be fine. Plug him between Holloway and Kyrou and let them turn on the afterburners and get up the ice, then he can come right along as the trailer for some sizzling one-timers/shots. Hopefully we get to see him play another game or so before we send him back down, but as of right now, I'm very hesitant to pencil him into even our third line next year.

Could have sworn he got a game for it, clearly not.
Nope, and I was absolutely appalled. One of the clearest cases of intent to injure I've ever seen.

But it's the DPS so since Buch finished the game, it's all good. If that ended Buch's postseason it's remembered as one of the dirtiest plays in recent memory.
