Annual LTIR discussion: Bill Zito-Tkachuk regular season over, hopes he'll be back for the playoffs

We're not getting Rantanen without giving away a key part of the team, so its not happening.

I'd expect more depth for G and F but nothing as huge as the Jones deal.
I agree - we can't afford Rantanen in terms of what the Canes would likely ask for: the cost would be too high for just a rental. Although, sweet idea: not to get competitive about this but we have more Finns than any other team ;-)...

Maybe Zito surprises us but depth rentals are probably what I figure we'd be going for. TBH, it's all fun and games if we get Tkachuk back for game 1 of the playoffs. But worried he could miss a lot more than that.

Get Staios drunk! It's a plan!!

I guess if we let Bennet and Ekblad go in the summer we can? Not sure.

Anyway, you could say we literally lost against Tampa in the first round in 2021 and the finals to Vegas because of this loophole. So fudge it at this point. Might as well join the dark side and game the system.

This is happening
As much fun as it would be too use the 8 and change for the Kuch special.

Panther do not have many assets left.

I can see them making like 1-2 small moves (back up goalie and depth forward) eat up maybe half of that.

But it won't be the same as the double digit millions TB and VG used in LTIR

Nobody in the east has given them any problems yet the last 2 playoffs, and none of them have really improved at all.

Bennett and Lundell are both playing some of their best hockey, Florida should still sleepwalk to the SCF again, and Tkachuk should be back at some point before then
Mackie Samoskevich keeps getting better as well. His growth is like adding really good middle 6 winger at the deadline.

He basically is producing everything Tarasenko was for the Panthers.

Annual complain thread… love seeing the cream of the crop teams in the NHL do everything they can to win a Cup.

Management leading by example to win

Tkachuk is obviously injured, but like Kucherov, Stone, whoever else, I'm sure the MRI scheduled to determine if he can return to play is the day after game 82.

I would assume the Panthers will abuse this and try to get Rantanen. Tough for me to defend it.

Between this and especially Game Management, NHL games aren't exactly pre-determined, but they aren't purely competitive either.

I'm not a fan of this rule but I never hated teams using it, my opinion won't change because it's Florida. Obviously he's legitimately hurt, and if his season's over this thread is moot but my assumption is he'll be back. Now Florida has a ton of space and imo far and away the best GM (unequivocally top 3) to add to a team that's won the President's Trophy and went to back to back Finals the past 3 years. If Florida joins Chicago, Tampa, and Vegas and wins it all again, does this finally bring any changes?

Oilers have Kane and it looks like they may do the same thing
